This is one of the nicer running board tool boxes that's followed me home from a local swap meet. It's 3 foot long by 6.5 x 6 inches. I am looking forward to installing it on our 1915 touring car once I repaint it black to match our car. With this box you can still mount a Tall accordion luggage gate and carry camping gear over top of the toolbox without over topping a luggage gate.
Nice find. Are you sure it's for the running board? Most I have seen that are that size and shape are on the rear floor of a larger touring car. The narrow lip on top behind the hinge fits either under the back of the front seat or under the front edge of the back seat, just under the rear passengers feet. I'll look and see if I have a picture.
Jay, the slotted holes in the back and the configuration of the lid hinge suggest it is made to be mounted against a vertical surface. That lid setup would not be too watertight on a running board. I suggest you send it to me to install behind the seat in my shooting brake. I'll pay the postage, if that helps.
Just trying to help.
Allan from down under.
Many thanks guy's for pointing out that it's for mounting inside the car. I never stopped to think that the box wouldn't be water tight on the running board. This old brain isn't as sharp as it used to be in my younger days.
Neat old box. I can't recall that I have ever seen one like it.
Drive carefully, and enjoy, W2
Wherever it mounts, that's a cool box!
Well I finally got around to trying this box out in the back seat of our 15 touring and what doyaknow it fits! Thanks to Chris Paulsen for pointing out the true use of this cool tool box!

WOW, minty.
At one time in a former life, before I returned to "A-Ford", I played with a 1924 Studebaker Special 6 "Can't-A-Ford" Touring. It had an identical box on it's running board for storing the (extra big) side curtains. Not factory for the make, but a really nice accessory I wish I still had now.
