Its been 5 years since my wife and I visited Detroit to do all things Ford.
Whilst there, we were fortunate enough to be invited by Tim Moore to his home in central Michigan.
He and his lovely family opened up their home to us and invited over some of his vintage Ford friends to meet us and have a cook-out.
Just this morning I was going through some of the images I took of the day and I figured you'd like to see this one. Obviously the signage worked.
Thanks again Tim....it was one of those special days. You know, one I will never forget.
I feel I have to do it all again someday....and soon....."Adventure before Dementia"
Cheers,
Rob
Rob-
The hospitality of our USA Model T Ford friends is fantastic. During my first visit to Detroit I was fortunate to be put in touch with a gentleman by the name of Henk Czerwick. Henk at one point was a tour guide at the Fairlane home and gave us a very special tour of Fairlane giving us access to some areas where the general public do not get to go. It was a very special experience. Henk also picked us up from our hotel and took us on a tour of Detroit pointing out all things Ford. It was a great to see the remains of Highland Park, and the old Piquette building, one of Henry and Clara's first homes and the burial Ford plots at the cemetary. I'm sure Rob and other will join me in saying dont hesitate to get in touch with your Aussie Forum friends and we will show you a good time in Australia if you can come and visit. Next years National Tour in the Barossa Valley in South Australia would be a good time to visit. How about coming over???
Rob, I have to agree 100% that Tim and family are great T people. I also have that same sign. You'll just need to let me know when to prop it up outside. Jerry
Warwick,
Julie and i experienced the same fantastic hospitality from perfect strangers with similar interests. We met Jack & Patricia at the Piquette Ave plant and was given a similar royal tour of the area, their home and numerous Ford sites! See you and Paula in November at castlemaine
Alan in Western Australia
Can a Kiwi also reminisce about a Detroit trip too ? My now wife and I spent 4 days there in 2005 and stayed with Dave Colman and his wife. Sadly Dave doesn't seem to participate here anymore, but he wanted to return the favour by hosting us for when he and his wife visited New Zealand years before. They also were the perfect hosts and opened their home to us, and we too saw all parts of Detroit and Ford with a few "backdoor" visits thrown in. We also met Tom Mullin while we were there, I see Tom's posts here once and a while. Again, we can never thank our Detroit hosts enough for their hospitality.
Tom, my wife Emma, myself and Dave Colman in 2005.
