Michael and any other Danes out there,
Happy June 5th!
Roar
Roar, If Gov. Scott Walker wins his recall and beats back the union thugs it will be a happy day today for America too!!
From Wiki: June 5th.
The signing of the Danish constitution in 1849. Some people attend meetings with speeches, often outdoor, where politicians or other public figures will elaborate their view on the constitution, history and the current state of the nation. This day probably is the closest equivalence to an actual national day. Elderly, middle class and right-of-centre people often regard this day more important than May 1. With few exceptions, all shops stay closed on Grundlovsdag by law.
Jay,
If the taxpayers of Wisconsin do not come out and vote, they are enslaving themselves to the government unions. I hope they realize that.

Here in California we get to vote in the presidential primary. The small states have already decided who the candidates will be, so our primary is wasted. We need a constitutional amendment to have all presidential primaries on the same date in every state, and the rules should be the same for all states as well. The present system was made for horse and buggy days when the candidates had to travel from state to state to campaign, but now with mass media, and instant computerized returns, it would be no problem to hold it in all states at the same time. The president is the only office which represents all of the citizens, and it is unfair that a few states can dominate who the next president will be. There I've said it and already feel better. I'm sure there will be many disagreements with me over this issue.

Correct, Norman, the Electoral College is obsolete, and should have been abolished 50 years ago. Our un-inaugurated President, Al Gore, would not have killed our Bill of Rights with the unPatriot Act, and would not have made two illegal wars of aggression. Acts by a few zealots, no matter how horrific, deserve police-type response, not military invasions.
-------
The problem is not public employee unions, but the devastation of manufacturing that has killed private sector unions, which is gutting our Middle Class, and that makes the public employee unions stand out as prime targets of the oligarchy.

ducking now...
A short 10 hours from now we will know if Gov Walker stays in office. The unions have spent a lot of union dues on trying to unseat him. The state has spent millions on this recall. Millions that could have helped the state much more than this recall. I think a sign I saw this AM, explains the recall pretty well. "Recall Santa, I did not get what I wanted for Christmas"
Hopefully Walker is out on his butt!
Then the State of Wisconsin can start moving forward again.
I suppose your opinion varies as to whether or not you are a government paid employee in Wisconsin.
I also agree that all primaries should be on the same day.
Thanks Roar! And for us classic car owners it is also National Drive-it day. This is a FIVA initiative where FIVA have urged the national organisations to choose a day where all classic vehicles are driven - either as part of a tour or exhibition, or (better if you ask me) used for all driving today. The purpose is to show how many we are and the general public enjoys it.
In Denmark we have chosen the constitutional day for that.
Personally I had my own 3 1/2 hour tour around curly backroads in Northern Zealand where I live.
