A giant wrench with a six foot pipe on the handle only threatens to rip the vise off the workbench. Any other ideas before I apply the heat wrench?
Heat it or split it. I have broken a manifold in the vise like that.
Had one stuck like that in the repair corral at the T Centennial in Richmond. Several people had tried to loosen it for a long period of time with various cheater bars. I asked the owner to start the car and keep the spark retarded while revving the engine. After about a minute I put a short KR Wilson wrench on it and it came off with a minimum of effort.
Obviously yours doesn't run Steve so you can just heat it with a MAP torch to achieve the same effect as per don's recommendation.
If its an improved model with the cowl gas tank, you might want to fill the tank with water or remove it before you hit the nut with the torch.
Not a problem, Ted. It's off the car.
Steve, I broke my manifold trying to get the nut off. So whats more expensive Nut or Manifold? You do not Need to break your manifold as I did...Cut off the nut buy another. You do not need to respond but think!
Heat it then put it in the Freezer. Will come right off after that.
If push comes to shove...a hacksaw blade wrapped with duct tape on one end, saw thru the nut perp to threads from the passenger side floorboard area until it finds male thread, stop and then whack the saw line with a cold chisel. Usually pops right open.
You're lucky with the 6ft cheater, the manifold usually grenades into a bunch of pieces that way
