I posted these on the MTFCI forum since this one was down.
Finally got Rob's Buffalo Carb for his Model K done. Interesting project.
Got the Buffalo carb done for Rob's Model K. I reused every possible part from the original, did have to machine a new throttle shaft, new adjustment rod and make an adapter to install a modern needle and seat. I used all the original screws, bolts, cotter pins, etc. An interesting carb. It has a cone shaped variable venturi and dual feed nozzles, no idle circuit. It's little wonder most were replaced but it is a gorgeous piece.
Anyway, The pics aren't the best for color. I'll probably take more on a different color background before I send it to Rob this afternoon. Here are a couple more pics of it.
It is a combination of odd sizes, the bolt heads are not Imperial, Metric or Whitworth, the metering rod size is just under 5 mm or .195 so I had to turn down 1/4 rod to size before I could thread it. I used Naval Bronze for the rod so it should be good for another 105 years. The throttle shaft is 3/16ths, made a new brass shaft with a Naval bronze bushing, etc. It was an interesting project, I was concerned about having to enlarge the hole for the fuel inlet from an odd size larger than 5/8 but smaller than 11/16ths for the adapter but I couldn't see any other was to do it to get a modern Viton tipped needle and seat with a fuel supply passage big enough to feed that big 6 so I enlarged the hole to 3/4. I made sure it was securely chucked in the mill before I put the enlarging bit to the metal. There are NO cores for one of these, if you ruin it, you are sunk, sunk, sunk. I spent a lot of time looking at this and thinking about it before I came up with a final plan for the needle and seat. The shafts and metering rod were time consuming but no big deal to make.
I'd better get to the shop, I'm trying to get three more carbs out today.
That's really impressive!
Try a blue or green background for the next photos. That should look good.
I usually use blue, it works better. Here is what it looked like when I started on it. It didn't have any gaskets in it, just rubber cement.
It looks like that carb was way ahead of its time, with the '26-7 swivel on top.
Pretty work, Unc.
Very Nice!!!
Stan,
Looks great! Will run even better!

Wayne, go easy on Unca' Stan. He has actually been losing some weight recently.
He probably is concerned he will weigh down that new pickup he'll be riding in for the Montana 500!
Nice work, as usual, Stan!
Stan,
I wondered how the carb was coming along. Looks like a thing of beauty. Are you shipping it to me or Dean?
Thank you,
Rob
From my iPad
