Here is John Steele's Detour Deluxe. Temporary seats while he is working on the seat. Rajo, Planet Jr. two speed. Zoom Zoom. Watch for us on the Montana 500. You'll see a taillight in the distance if you are one of the racers. We can't race but will be setting the pace.
What's wrong with the seats it has?
I love it! I bet it makes plenty of noise, too!!
Love the adjustable seats! Looks like a lot of fun...
That thing doesn't need a seat - just a pair of old saddles.
Hmm, has anybody done that?
Seat belts? what on earth for?? (well maybe to hold the seat in??)
Looks like too much fun!!
Bet it burns lots of valves...
Very cool. Would love to see/hear a video of it running.
Also need to see some photos of that exhaust manifold please.
Our Fronty never burned or warped valves when it had short stacks like that. At night you can see the color of the exhaust and fine tune the mixture.
Stan,
Nice looking "sleeper" of a fast T especially if they approach it from the driver's side and don't see the short stacks on the other side.
I see a few 1915ish parts -- headlamps have the "L" shaped connectors, the coil box has the 1915 style one piece lid, the right front cast two ears hood hold down clamp.
I also see what looks like an auxiliary gear shift which I would assume is for the "Planet Jr. two speed." But I do not see any auxiliary brakes. Since you are involved, I would assume it will have external brakes before hitting the highway. But if not, please let us know if you would like some additional examples of what can go wrong that you can share with John.
Again, great looking T!
Respectfully submitted,

BRAKES!!! We don't need not stinkin' brakes.
I'm dealing on a new motorcycle. A friend told me I am too old to be riding motorcycles. I pointed out that I am going to go on the T race in this pickup with John in the Montana mountains.
I also pointed out that I am trying to get time to build a Barnyard Cruiser so I can go racing on dirt tracks and cow pastures in a Model T.
He told me to buy the motorcycle.
Tell John to buy a face shield or he'll be eating bugs with that big grin on his face.
I have been wondering when we were going to get Barnyard Cruiser updates.
I saw where Stan is building his track this summer and It's going to be a hoot- too drive and watch. Let me know when it's ready and I'll bring my Snow Bird to try it out for winter raceing. GRIN

Add an old leather seat bench and I'd say it's a truck I'd like to be seen in . . . um . . . on.
That is one nice truck. I love the original color. All it needs is a set of spinners on the wheels.
Stan is way more confident about this car being ready than I am. The thing caught on fire last week end, so much for the good deal on the rebuilt Tillitson X. Guess I should put on a Stromberg. Got a little more done today, but there is a ways to go before it's road worthy. Hope to take a test run tomorrow.
John, I think the "short exhaust stacks=warped valves is an old wive's tale. I have seen MANY engines over the years with short stacks, and I think if that was a problem, they wouldn't use them. Just my observations. Dave
What kind of pump for the fuel system?
John, contact me if your needing information on a guy that rebuilds those old brass carbs, mainly Strombergs. He has e-mail and does a pretty good job.
Dave this car was done like this in the 30's so you have some more evidence to back up your theory. No fuel pump Dexter but if it is necessary I would probably add a hand pump. This car was licensed until 1973 and to my knowledge never had any kind of pump. Jerry I've heard rumors about that guy up in Helena.
