I'm coming along on the Fordor but need to replace one door window and get the rear "quarter" windows reinstalled.
I'm wondering how the heck the previous owner got them out in the first place.......
One door window is broken and a large chunk of glass had wedged inside the door but I got it out.
Before I tax my brain TOO much what is the method for removing the bottom window channel from the door?
Any ideas how to set new glass in the channel?
The original stuff is like concrete and there surely was never ANY chance of a window removing itself from that channel!

Craig, I'm replacing my windows in my 27 fordor. The way I took them out was to unclip the top of the weather strip on both sides. With the crank unhooked from the channel, you then push the window up and out from the inside. The bottom window channel was like yours hardened, I used a knife and kept running it deeper into the channel. This caused the hard crap to break up and loosened the glass from the steel channel. It takes some work to do it and I advise wearing good gloves and eye protection just in case...

That was fast........ :-) .......thanks!
Does the lifting mechanism have to be unscrewed from the door to get the lefter helper lever out of the channel?

BTW......this is another reason this site needs a DEPENDABLE host!

I can't remember exactly but I think I removed the lifter completely first....could be wrong..

I think you're right Don....... :-)
That's the only way I can see to get the lifter lever out of the channel but if I didn't ask.......sometimes the simplest solutions are right under your nose.......

A good hardwood block and a hammer will sometimes let you tap(drive) the lower metal off an old window. Lay it flat on an old towel to lessen breaking glass.

I'll give that shot Jack while it's still in the door.
I was hoping to NOT have to remove it and just glue in a new glass.......it's not like it's going to go anywhere....... :-)

I took all the glass and channels out of my 24 Fordor and used a heat gun along the channel to soften the gunk , i then cleaned everything with lacquer thinner, painted them and took the old glass that was usable to a glass shop and let them install new laminated glass.I don't think you will be able to remove the channel in the door.

Just a hint, but I removed the glass and window channels on my 24 Coupe when I took each door off and did it a lot easier when the door was flat on a table and much easier to work with. I tried to do one door and got frustrated and took the door off. Things went much easier with it off. I knocked out the 2 pins and that was it.

That's what I'll do Rick.....it isn't that big a deal plus I'll be able to SEE in what shape the gears are....... :-)

Jack you are correct now that I recall, I did use a knife to loosen the old gunk and then tapped it gently until it came off...scary stuff with that glass it tends to pop slivers if it breaks.
