The other day, while it was rather warm, I had the windshield on my 1926 TuDor open, a wind gust came along and the wind shield slammed shut. This always gets my attention and I swear that I need to get the nuts tighter. Well, this week I solved the problem. I made a couple of new lever arms with a stop in it. I made a cardboard pattern and with hand tools I cut out the new lever arm. I have to polish them up a little better than plate them, but they are working great already.
Good idea. The original arms had cup washers on each side of the arm with leather washers in the cups to hold the arm tight. On my '26 coupe I replaced the leather washers with rubber washers that fit into the cups which hold even better than the leather washers, so my windshield stays where I put it. Jim Patrick.
Nice work!
It's good to see a guy who'll dig in and make something that he needs.
Nowadays you hear "my mechanic" or "my paint guy" or "my machinist" and a lot of others.
Good on ya!
Now that's a heck of an idea!
Texas T Parts has adjustable arms.
Jim, I found your posting regarding the cup washers with the leather very interesting. So much so that I looked up the body parts book to see if they were listed. I found what I think may be the items, listed as Washer ( windscreen swing arm bracket screw ) Part Number 17313BX 1923-25. It would seem that not all the Closed body styles have them listed. I could not find them on the later car listings.
Anyway I thought it was a great idea , so I had a go at making a pair. I used some flat copper sheet I had and punched out the Cup like washers, and made the leather washers from some spare leather belting. They look like they will do the job nicely
Thank you for posting it. Best regards, John
