The 23TT has a short running board on the pass.side thats about gone. No luck on finding one so far...can you take a regular running board and cut it down to fit?
Ant Sugestions?

Fred Wicker:

I had some TT running boards, I will look around and see if I can find them. I may have shipped them already or sold them to a walk in.

Fred, Yes you could cut a piece out of a car running board, the width is the same. The diamond pattern is a little different and the very ends of the TT running board do not have a pattern. If you cut the car board, the pattern will be cut and look a little strange on the ends. Also the word Ford is in the center of the TT running board. Would be better than no running board.

Fred,

I don't know exactly what you mean by "about gone", but mine were also just about shot. Instead of replacing them, I took them off and removed the wood blocks. Then I just cut 2 pieces of good solid wood (one for each running board) that measure 7 1/2" X 15" X 3/4" and used them instead of the two blocks on each side. Then I put the running board over the new wood, which it slips right over, drilled the wood and bolted it up.

This reinforced the metal sufficiently to make is safe and is pretty much invisible. The edge of the wood just looks like the edge of the block you expect to see. Anyhow, it was a cheap fix and it worked fine.

Good Luck!

Fred, I wouldn't cut up T running boards. The TT boards aren't hard to find. They come up on ebay once in a while and at swap meets. I used to have several, but I put them in an auction a few years ago and they only brought a few bucks apiece. Dave

Could you provide a photo of the running board that is "about gone"? Perhaps we have some restoration ideas.

Fred
That suggestion by Henry sounds to me like a good one. Most of the TTs had wood strips between the running board and the metal support.
A solid piece of wood would work.

I still don't know what the problem is...what is wrong with it??? Putting wood under it solves what?

Hi John,

Mine have rust and rust through to the extent that I was afraid to put my body weight on them. At the time I didn't have much money to spend, so I had to come up with an economical way to strengthen them. Putting solid wood under them was just enough to make them good and sturdy on the cheap. It is also a fix that's not visible unless you crawl under it to look at the wood. A little black paint on the edges and I was good to go.

Nice to hear from you!

Henry

The board is rusted away on one end,Im going to use the wood idea first...this way I can keep "the look" that the truck has. the other side of the truck has a tire rack at the running board.
Oh on Fordbarn and around the Model a bunch they all know me as "Wick" from Gwynn's Island VA.

Running the risk of beating this to death....it is just my curiosity that wants to know how bad the condition is. Rust out can mean a lot of things. I am one for restoring almost everything within reason....welding for me is the usual solution. I am just interested in providing a restoration solution.

I made two for a project a few years ago. I just cut the center section out of two car running boards to keep the Ford logo. Then added the front fender mount and rear cap. Hard to tell it from any original.

Fred, if you don't come up with something, let me know. I might have one around here that is better than what you have. Dave

I'd put wood under it as a temporary measure and watch for a better one at swap meets and T auctions. I don't remember what I paid for mine, but it wasn't much.
