Has anyone seen a Bosch side drive with the impulse connected in this manner without a driving disk?
Lots of manufactures drove magnetos without a coupling.
Just a slotted drive engaging with a tang, usually like this but sometimes all the way across the the impulse cup like this >>> http://t2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcT3W2zFF_J1rAdTpKhKHmsFQqESkAW93Oi9__fUC 4hvj031y2DvcmoCGq5Mbg
I'm not nuts about the setup in your photo......I hope there's a little wiggle room so alignment doesn't have to be dead on.
Yes Craig The photo you referenced shows a slotted drive like all of the later Bosch impulses, they used a non metallic driving disk between the two pieces.
The bar that is on the drive shaft is intended for a disc of leather to be bolted to it. At 90 degrees on the magneto would have been a similar bar bolted to the leather. This is a cobbled together setup.
Hi Layden
That is how my current mag is setup on a side drive, with the leather in between, have you seen one with an impulse, and how did they connect it?
Ron.....no disc in between. They engage directly in the drive flange.
No flange mount magneto uses an intermediate coupling and many base mount magnetos don't either.
Avery tractors come to mind for one........
