Dane. According to the old timers (OT's)

The Swan barracks are in Francis Street Perth and i believe that the building is still there. In WW1, the troops left from Albany in our South West, hence the "A" for Albany.

The town of Albany is now divided in two regions and their number plates are now "A" and "AL"
