The coil on our 29 Packard gave up the ghost after fifty years of use. I have a generic 6v coil in now but I would like to know if this unit can be rebuilt by you. Under the heat sink is a headlight bulb used as a ballast resistor. Can you tell me about this unit?
That is not a 29 Packard coil, it is an aftermarket. There were two types of 29 Packard coils and both mounted slightly different. Original coils had a switch key in them extending thru the dash. My 29 626 has an aftermarket coil mounted against the inside of the firewall. I have a 29 Packard coil with switch that was given to me but it is for the senior series I believe as it will not fit the bracket on the dash. What model is your Packard?
Hi Jim. We have a 645 7 passenger touring with a Dietrich body . I know the coil is after market but it does have a certain cool factor about it and since it lasted at least fifty years, it may be worth having it rebuilt if it will last that long again.
Interesting, I found one of those with a light bulb in it, in a box of T parts, didn't know what it was until now, live and learn.
