No I haven't heard anything but it looks like it is in his area, maybe he is on his way home from the Montana 500.

George Button:

The High Park Fire was laying low this morning, whn I went into town. When I came back it was really kicking up a big plume but not as big as some in the past.

I went up to Estes Park yesterday with some other Ters. The fire in estes is under control and just about no smoke. The story that is being put out is that a cabin cought on fire and it spread to the other homes and cabins. Estes is only 12 miles from the high Park Fire so I suppose it could have been cinders. Our swimming pool cover was covered with ashes this morning and we are maybe 20 miles from the High Park Fire. The tourist were as thick as I have ever seen them in Estes, so the fire in Estes, didn't scare anyone away.

We in NW Colorado are getting some smoke this morning, either from the fires in Southern CO or possibly the one close to Salt Lake. Seems ours is the only area of the state that doesn't have a major fire going..........YET!

Here is an article in Wired.com with some spectacular pictures from space (ISS?) of the fires:

One of the USAF C-130J near the White Draw Fire in SD went down Sunday afternoon. Sketchy reports say only 2 or 3 of the six man crew survived, and were flown to hospital. As of last night it was not on major news programs or sites.

Hoping for the best, and surprised at lack of news coverage.

Another bit of good news to me, The High Park Fire was stopped 4 1/2 miles down canyon from RUSTIC. Rustic is where we usually stop for gas and something to eat on the first day of the LEAF PEEPER TOUR on the way to Walden.

Smoke has been around Northern Colorado for the last three days but I understand its from wild fires in Wyoming not the Colorado fires.

The TV issued a warning tonight on flooding in Boulder. Boulder Creek Runs right through the center of town and they have had some hard rains up the creek. My wife was in Loveland this afternoon and she said the wipers had a hard time keeping the windshield clear it rained so hard. Here 4 miles south of Berthoud we hardly got a drop. The TV news prodcast said that there was as much as 3 inches of rain in one area.

Jim Becker called me today. As some of you know, Jime lives in Estes Park where 22 houses were burned. Jim said he had his 12 tourinig and his 14 roadster Pickup loaded in a trailer ready to go, but the fire did not reach his place. I don't now what he had planned to do about his other Ts. Anyway he and Pat and property are OK.

God bless the fire fighters that risk their lives to save wilderness and communities alike from these destructive fires. Heroes All!

Thanks for the updates. Seems that now the fires aren't important to the news media now. Haven't seen anything on the news for two or three days now. Dave
