I have installed a set of the repro AC Brakes and I find it difficult to adjust. They either drag making the drum very hot or do not work if I back them off a turn. Is their a break in period on the new brake bands? Your thought please. Thanks, JP

There is a breakin period on new linings.
They must fit the drum all the way around well. You may have to take them off and bend the shoes to fit the drums well.
Do NOT drive with the shoes/bands so tight they drag.
You will have to drive it around stopping several times with the bands just tight enough to stop. Do NOT get them real hot. Allow them to cool down if they get hot.
The more you drive and stop and adjust the better they will work. It takes time.

Thanks Jack, I thought it was just me. I guess I will wait for Dan Treace to do one of his excellent photo instructions.

I have a set on my 14. Before I installed the bands I wrapped them around the brake drums and pulled them down tight. I then used a dead blow hammer gently to work the flat spots out of the bands. I also installed a fulcrum so the actuating action was greater than 1:1 with brake pedal movement. This allowed me to run with the A/C brakes a bit looser than if I had followed the factory design.
I can bring my car to a full stop on the steep hills around where I live, where before I could NOT stop the car on the same hill. Of course I am not a fast driver and I doubt if the car has ever been over 33 mph with me at the wheel.

Thanks for posting that question Jaqk,I just today put 29 Chevy brakes on a 26/7 T rear axle for my 22 Coupe.I already discovered it appears there is a fine line in syncronizing the chev brakes with the factory trans. brake.I never thought about the heat you mentioned.

Bill, is your '14 back on solid wheels? Or are you planning to have another driver at the parade... like your Super Metro?

My 14 is on a jackstand and I need a couple of safe wheels. I will address that after the current project is ready for the car show in Atascadero.
At this time the AC brakes stay on the T and the Metro brakes are quite happy on the Metro.
