After making the effort to charge the flywheel magnets, is it so smart to whack the flywheel 16 times after putting the flywheel together (magnets ties and brass screws) to peen the ends of the brass retaining screws instead of using locktight? I was under the impression that if you rap a magnet it will loose some if its magnetizum.
It is nice to have those magnets as strong as possible.
Chris has done some great work to get this forum up again.
Much appreciated

Wilf, I usually use a sharp center punch and put about three little punches around the end of the screw, does'nt take much to stake the soft brass. Have fun,KB
Wilf :I use a sharp center punch , and put one punch on the side of the mag. screw. And I still have 35 AC Volt.

Wilf,
You shouldn't have to hit the brass screws anywhere near hard enough to mess up a magnet.
Great info guys
Thanx to all
Wilf
Not that it applies in this case, but some mag recharging procedures actually call for beating on the magnet to help all the molecules to align for BETTER magnetism.
Tapping, Hal, Tapping!
Bigger hammer?
When I dismantled my 1926 transmission for the first time in 1970, which I believe was the first time it had ever been dismantled since leaving the factory, the ends of the brass screws were split as if split by a cold chisel. This might be a better way to do it, as, a cold chisel strike is much more concentrated and I would assume, fewer strikes would be needed to attain the desired results. Jim Patrick
Just drank a bunch of beer... now I'm peen.
Tapping. THATS the word I was looking for.
