For reasons unknown my previous post wandered off into the twilight zone.

I wanted to publicly thank all everybody for their words of encouragement and for the advice, tips and dimensions I needed to undertake my project and to especially thank William Vandeberg for his tips and pictures of his Classtique kit installation and Steve Boothroyd for all the pictures (66 of them) which showed every facet of his original upholstery, a great help. The only thing that made this more of a chore than I would have liked is that I didn't have an upholstery grade sewing machine, had to sew it (ALL) by hand (man do my fingers hurt!). For the rear seat I think I'll try and find someplace where I can use a machine for the channel work at least.

The reason for all this is simple...I couldn't afford the kits (Classtique's is the best in my opinion and someday I'll get it). My wife informed my that she wouldn't go near, nor sit much less learn to drive my car UNLESS it had upholstery in it (something about setting on the springs didn't appeal to her, go figure), so I attempted to make my own. Sure I made a few mistakes here and there, but on the whole, I think it came out pretty good! At least it'll do for now.

The seat cushion, I chose not to put in the buttons.

The completed seat, one of my chief mistakes was not understanding the forming of the corners, but having done this once, I can safely say I know what to do next time. I also chose to cover the buttons, mostly because painted didn't seem to suit my choice of fabric.

Thanks again guys, couldn't have done any of this without you.

Nice work Martin and the fact that you did it yourself will make it even more enjoyable. Kudos!

Yes, it turned out really great. My wife said the same thing about the springs in my car...that's why she ponied up the money for the upholstery! :-)

You don't need an upholstery grade machine. Find your self an old treadle. :-)Upholstery

When my boy's boat needed re-upholstering I went to the local sewing machine place and rented a Brother walking foot type of machine that'll even sew heavy leather. I liked it so much that I bought the machine instead of returning it. I use it often.

That's a mighty fine job for doing it by hand.
