Hi Guys..
I just removed the drive shaft and to do so, had to remove the pin holding the universal joint. It came out in two pieces. Was there/is there any instance where it would have been place in tow pieces. They almost look like they were machined together - a 'v' fitting into a 'v' groove.
Also, now that I have it all apart and cleaned out, how, how much, and what sort of lubricant to I reapply?
Thanks,
Michael

The pin is supposed to be one piece, mashed on both ends to keep it in. Lube with grease.
Fill up the ball joint, and press grease into the joint parts, using a popsicle stick lets you pack it easy.
The u-joint needs lots of lube, that is why the largest grease cup on a Model T is at the u-joint.
Once you've packed in the grease as Dan showed, refer to the lube chart for how often to add more grease. I fill both cups, the big one for the U-joint and the small one for the bushing, and turn them down all the way each time.
The responses are missing the point. If the pin was in two pieces, it is possible either the square end of your drive shaft is worn, or your universal's socket is worn, and there is unwanted play breaking the pin. If this is the case both may need replacement.

Thanks guys....
Yes, Doug..I was worried that might be the case. How do I evaluate the universal? I can send detailed photos of the square end of the drive shaft, but is there a rule of thumb for determining the amount of play in the universal?

That brings up another question. If the socket is loose on the shaft, would a shim to fill the space last long enough to be worthwhile?
