What does a touring(around 1914) car weigh? Does anyone know what a "Rolling Chassis" weigh. Car complete with no body?
My 1923 Touring weighs almost exactly 2000 pounds. No idea about the rolling chassis.
Incidentally, the weight is almost exactly equally divided between the front and rear axles - actually about 100 pounds more on the rear. That seems counter-intuitive, until you realize the front axle is in the very front of the car, even in front of the engine, and the rear axle is quite a ways under the car.
The earliest "shipping weight" table I've seen is for the 1915 models. This should be pretty close to the 1914 though. The 15 Touring is listed at 1510 pounds and the chassis is listed as 1200 pounds.
My '24 TT Express Delivery tipped the scales @ 2550# at the Templeton Feed and Grain.3 years ago.

Ken and "ALL" , thanks. Ken, those are the numbers close to what I have heard. I am trying to figure out the weight of my 14 Depot Hack.
Here are the official weights from Ford from the 1923 dealer data book: http://www.mtfca.com/books/ford.htm#wts
Roger, Thanks. Great information in all the sections of "Ford Data" .....Chip
There is over a 500 pound difference between Peter car and the book. Wonder what is so different.
Adding the weight of demountables and starter equipment to the book weight reduces the difference to 373 pounds, still a lot. Some figures seems suspect in the listed weights - like 1535 pounds for a 1922/23 runabout, higher than all the tourings..

The touring and chassis weights are both shown
Jim are you sure Tom didn't have his thumb on the scale? I look forward to seeing you on the 4th! - John
I notice the 1914 Touring has a shipping weight of 1200 pounds...

... and in the very next model year, 1915, the touring has a shipping weight of 1510 pounds.

I can't help but wonder from where 310 pounds of additional weight came?
Bob, if you look back through the years, the 1200 pounds figure was first given for the 1909 touring. Perhaps it was correct back then, without front doors - and perhaps even without the then optional windshield and top? Then nobody cared to revise the official weight until the 1915 model?
Doug and others got me to wondering if my memory was faulty (highly likely) so I pulled out the weigh slips.
This was done on the scale at the Farm Services (feed store)with a half-full gas tank, full radiator, normal tools under the back seat, nobody in the car. It's a stock 1923 Touring, metal firewall, low radiator - which I'm told is a combination that was only built for a short while as parts were used up??
Front axle: 900 lbs.
Rear axle: 1080 lbs.
Whole car: 1980 lbs.
Now I'm wondering about the accuracy of the scale........
Just drove my 1911 roadster across a brand new scale at work week before last car was 1495 lbs.
Note: that's with no top on it yet.
I thought maybe Peter had 500 pounds of food in his manifold cooker!
Early on Ford used the claimed low weight of the T a lot in advertising - perhaps the 1200 lb touring was an exaggerated claim from the beginning?
