How many amps does a Model T starter (6 volt) in good condition use?

Which answer do you want?
Free running without a load?
Cranking the engine?
Stalled producing 12 foot pounds of torque?

Ron:

Foremost, cranking the engine.

But, the amperage associated with "free running" and "stalled producing 12 ft/lbs" may also be of interest.

Thanks, Neil

Ford specs for properly operating Model T starter and engine are:
Free running without a load: 70 Amps
Cranking the engine: 150-160 Amps
Locked rotor producing 12 foot pounds of torque: 450 Amps

Neil, Most motors are rated by no load amps and locked rotor amps.

The locked rotor amps are valuable to test the health of an existing motor as well as a way to determine conductor size.

Don't forget to have large enough cables 12v style won't do!
