I have been looking for an old gas pump to go with our coupe and just about gave up the search. I went to see the local scrap metal dealer to see if he knew anybody who had one. A overhead gas pump was what I wanted and there are none in this area. He pointed to his friend sitting under a fan and said “he has one”. I went to look and it looked both old and modern at the same time. We struck a deal and I lugged it home. Turns out it is a Penometer made in 1930 by the Pennsylvania Pump Co., Inc. and he says he has the original globe (somewhere in 6 barns full of treasures (junk). It is red and says “Conoco”. The pump is an uncommon one and worth a lot more than I paid for it. I found a new dial and if the elusive globe isn’t found I can get a modern one. The insides are all there, unknown if it is frozen up. I will spray it with a new coat of red paint and put a hose on. The wife still says no to bringing it into the house, (wait until it shines.) It’s gonna look great with the car. Rick and Jo Lawson McGregor
What a score! ANd I like your coupe too...grin...
Super!
Very interesting Rick. My father and I built and serviced gas stations back from the 60's through the late 80's At one time we had a whole storage yard full of the old 'Visables'. They would have been worth a fortune today.
If I were to venture a guess, I'd say that is a commercial (non retail) unit like you would find on a farm, for instance. That's going to make a great yard ornament.
