I thought some of you may enjoy seeing this...
Les
Thank you for posting that item. I certainly found it interesting, especially given that this was before the US entered the war.

We weren't in the war yet, but people who were paying attention could see where things were headed. My grandfather, who died in May of 1941, predicted in the thirties that we'd end up in a war with Japan.
My mother worked for Ford and my arrival put a halt to her career there. The Glass House was still being built so her department was located in the de-comissioned government buildings next to the Rouge River. I sent this link on to her in the hope she can identify her building.
Right now I am sitting in a doctors office while my wife receives another IV for her infected surgery site. One of the older gents starting talking about Model Ts just now and my wife replied that she owns two and is now explaining the Ruckstell to the others seated in the IV chairs around her. It's a hilarious conversation and I am forced to listen from the other side of the wall.
Looking at these pre WWII photos and all the fresh young faces that, unknown to them, were destined to go to war in a few short months, it makes you ask the inevitable question, I wonder how many of those young sailors survived through 4 years of war in the Pacific? Jim Patrick
Jim,
Checking out Cyril Muller, it appears he survived and settled in Maine after the
war. This is a possible reference to him in a family history web site.
Might be able to track down more of the sailors named in the pictures.
Tom,
Good to hear your wife is taking ownership of your Ts. Now you can go get one for yourself!
Check out the look of intent on the faces of the boys in pic 16!
Steve, this being before the US entered the war could was really a reference to Ford's involvement in naval training. Whilst Henry the pacifist was not providing armaments, he was giving experitise.
It's interesting, at that late date, to see a steam crane in photo #6.......
