I hauled a load of brake rotors to the yard this morning (840 lbs worth). As I'm pulling off the scale I see something that puts a smile on my face....
A little closer look it shows to be a '58 or so s***shaker pickup with 9 million shotgun blasts to it.
I can only suspect it kept breaking down and the owner got mad about the whole deal.
Just goes to show Ford makes a superior product. The '56 Ford I hauled the rotors in did just fine but looked like a moonshiner until I offloaded.
That's a che*y isn't it?
Luke, I loved your through the 56 Ford windshield shot. I put many many miles in the same position behind a 56 club sedan. My 56 had over 700,000 on it when I got rid of it. It had the 223/6 in it. You could not kill that engine. I had a Crown Vic roof I was going to put on it. But I ended up selling it first. In my opinion, the 56 Ford was the best looking car ever produced.
The picture is my current 56. It was hot-rodded up when I bought it. I got lucky and found a club sedan with only 39,000 miles on it but was rotted out. I swapped the complete drive line and dash board to the convertible. this will be my next big restoration project.
Love the shot of the chebby pick-up (pun intended). if you had ever driven one of these, you know it got what it deserved!
I had a Powder Blue version of the car on the right of your 56.
Dennis, I ordered this 65 brand new. It is a genuine HI-PO. It is all original with 26,000 miles on it. Fast car
That looks like Rangoon Red. My dad and I restored a '65 GT that was Rangoon Red with red interior. It had every option you could order on a 'Stang in '65 except for A/C and side-view mirrors. It even had the $250 center console even though it had a manual transmission. We had the A code engine rebuilt to K code specs, and man it would FLY.
That red is a great looking color, especially in the sun. It's eye-popping slap you red, but next to a firetruck it looks orange.
There are some cool cars under there, do I spy a '40 Ford Deluxe Coupe further back?
I drove a 55 Vic to high school in 69-70. I put a 390 300 HP from a 62 T-Bird in it. After 5 busted transmissions, I went back to a 292. Things sure were different back then. Junk yards everywhere and NOS parts in the older Ford garages.
Dan,
My '56 has a 223 with std. shift. You're right it runs forever and gets decent fuel mileage.
I'm in the process of building a stout 312 for it but won't be in any hurry to change it out.
A 55-56 Ford Convertible is at the top of my wish list. Along with more room and deeper pockets!
Here's another thru the windshield pic. Me having a camera phone is dangerous.
Taken a couple weeks back while we were getting drenched with rain & wind from Tropical Storm Debbie, on my way to the diner for morning groceries.
I have a 65 mustang GT coupe sitting next to my 14.
Its been in the family since 72. Well optioned with center console, vynal top, but std interior, A/C. auto, power steering and you use both feet to stop it with the manual disc brakes
Bill, Your 14 and Mustang must look really nice parked next to your Metro! The good , the bad, and the ugly!
Seth and Bill, the color is Poppy Red with a white interior and console. I wanted the lightest body so I ordered the coupe. The coupe in the background is a 41 Business Coupe, only 31,000 miles on it. It has original paint, ford script headlight bulbs, original interior and floor mats, tools, jack in the Ford script burlap bag, and the original spare. It still has the original paper tube on the shift column to protect the paint during assembly. The dealer was suppose to remove but never did. The car runs and drives like new. The lady that bought it new changed the oil every May. One year, she put only 90 miles on it.
Lance, the 56 had a 390 with a 4 speed when I bought it.
Luke, you wouldn’t believe how reasonable I bought it for, especially after I sold the engine, transmission and all the hot rod things that were on it. It came from Florida, but I found it on a back road in Vermont. It ran good but I didn’t try to drive it before I bought it as I knew I would be replacing the drive line. I borrowed a dealer plate to drive it home to upstate NY. The guy never said anything about the brakes not working, until I came back for it. He then said “the brakes went pulling into a rest area” he hit another car with it. He also never mentioned the clutch was gone. I nursed it to a gas station and got the brakes to work. I took the NYS Thruway to get home; anytime I hit a hill you could hear the engine pickup but not the car. I did make it back home.
Thanks for posting the other pic of your car. 56’s are excellent driving cars.
Nice to be in the company of true Ford people
Keeping in tune with the topic of this thread. Found one of my all time favorite photos and figured some of y'all would get a laugh out of it.
A '57 Chevy in the dumpster.
But you could sell that shell in the dumpster for like $5-10,000 in some places
My three Model Ts notwithstanding, my best and most favorite car is my 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air Sport Coupe (hardtop). I have had it since 1964 and it has been a daily driver without problems.
I've driven Chevs my whole life.
My only Fords are T's.
I'll never figure out what's the mystique of 57 Chevs........or 56's as far that goes.
The 57 Chevy 2-door hard top is on my short list of future cars. As is the 58 DeSoto 2 door hard top. As is the 67 CHevelle 2 door hard top. As is the 95 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4, as is the 37 P5 Plymouth Biz Coupe. As is the 69 Super Bee, as is the 31 Model A Coupe, as is the 1909 Model T, as is the 77 Celica GT Fastback, as is the 69-1/2 Trans Am, as is the....
I love cars. So many cars, so little time.
