Does anyone know if all the 1926 closed cars used the same dash? Or did the 1926 Fordor use a different dash from the 1926 coupe and Tudor?
Thanks for reply.
Have coupe and fordor. They look the same to me.
Has anyone replaced the dash in a 1926 Fordor with a dash from a 1926 coupe or Tudor sedan? Outwardly the dashes appear to be the same but as we know the Fordor had a different cowl and two piece windshield as compared to the coupe and Tudor sedan with the one piece windshield and cowl covering the gas tank. Additionally, I believe the steering wheel/column is lower in the coupe and Tudor. Are there any minor differences between the Fordor dash and the other closed car dashes that would not allow interchange? Has anyone actually tried this interchange? Thanks for any help and replies.
Closed cars had a different shaped dash ( deeper) than the open cars.
Joe, Because my first answer wasn't good enough, I have a 26-27 coupe dash that has been cut for an A C speedometer which I am going to install in my 26 fordor. I know it was a coupe dash because I parted the car it came from, out. I know my fordor's dash is original to that car. I'll pull the fordor dash and confirm my original reply. Yes, there were differences in 26-27 cowls but not steering columns (except for the bracket to frame part at the bottom and the firewall, mainly. Obviously, hood, steering wheel, and other parts were the same. If the dash doesn't interchange, I'll have wasted effort to make a speedometer installation and have a coupe, tudor dash for sale with a speedo hole.
I once bought a '26 touring dash, thinking it was the same as the dashes on my '26 coupe and '26 Fordor. While the '26 touring dash had the same instrument panel opening and choke hole opening, the dash, itself, is more narrow from top to bottom than the dashes on my Fordor and Coupe (and I believe the '26 Tudor dash is the same as the '26 Coupe and Fordor). Jim, You're correct. The open car dashes are a completely different shape on both the top and bottom sides from the enclosed car. Joe is just concerned that because the fordor had differences in the cowl, that the dash was different, too. I hope to dispel his fears.
Thank you Terry. Like you, I have a '26 Coupe and '26 Fordor (and love 'em) and the dashes on both look identical in appearance and dimensions. Jim Patrick
Joe, I changed out dashes, yesterday. No problem; perfect fit, however, since everyone knows that there were design changes in 26-27 bodies (see recent post about tudor differences), I'm not going to guarantee that every coupe or tudor dash is the same. If there is any difference , it would probably be a slight difference in the length, but I doubt it.
