I got to celebrate the 4th with a group of Americans and a Chinese comrade in Shanghai. Our comrade wanted to do something nice for us so she arranged for us to go to a restaurant that specialized in hamburgers No it wasn't MacDonalds! :-)

Just saw a piece on TV where they were interviewing people on the street about their knowledge of American History. Of course, you have no idea how much editing went on and how long they had to look to find these idiots, but they had no idea how many stripes were on the flag, or how many stars. One guy said the number of stars represented the number of presidents we've had. We celebrate Independence Day on the 4th of July because it's in the Summer and the weather is nice. We got our independence from Canada. The National Anthem doesn't have a real name other than "The National Anthem" and it was written by Thomas Jefferson. I'd be damned ashamed if I were them. Hell, I'm damned ashamed and I'm NOT them!

Most of the people who can't tell you who the Vice President is, can tell you the Kardashian's bra size.
The Mrs. and I were at our little town's 4th of July block party earlier.

Of course we weren't wearing jackets in a Florida July, that picture is a couple years old. My Mrs. is one of those very rare Viet Nam era woman Vets, she chose 'Dog Tags' over 'Love Beads'. In our families, it's easier to count the people who haven't served in the military than the ones who have.

I just posted this on Facebook:

Many have sung this song, and I like most of them, but this remains her song, and no one has ever done it quite as well....

Dick, Kate had a camp and studio up here in Lake Placid, NY. She did a lot of recording at the camp and word has it that one of her recording of this song was done here. She is always on the PA system for 4th of July....Chip
