Am I the only person being constantly annoyed by Rachel at Cardholder Services?

I called my phone company and told them I was willing to have the phone removed if the calls did not stop. They were no help at all.

I pressed 1 and told them what I thought about Rachel, but they hung up immediately.

The 360-474-3910 phone number in my caller ID is probably a spoof.

I did an Internet search and found that Rachel has called many people:

Millions of Americans, including me, receive a steady string of automated telephone calls from Rachel at Cardholder Services, who wants to lower your credit card rates.

Rachel calls not only our home telephone number, but also my cell phone number. Anytime you press 1 to get a person (as the robocall instructs you to do), you are connected with someone who wants to ask questions about your credit cards. As soon as you ask this person any question whatsoever, such as "What credit card company do you represent?" the person immediately disconnects the call without answering the question.

There is every reason to believe that these robocalls come from criminals seeking only to obtain your credit card information in order to attempt to use that credit card in their criminal enterprise.

Finally!!!! The Federal Trade Commission announced an enforcement action on February 24, 2012 that may curtail these bothersome and malicious calls.

The FTC appears as effective as a few of our other government agencies.

I have Caller ID on my home phone and cell phone, and both have voicemail. If I don't recognize a name or number, I don't answer. If the caller has something to say to me, he or she can leave a message. The majority don't. I think that Caller ID has replaced sliced bread in the "greatest thing since..." phrase.

I like to use intimidation on them, and have this beside the phone:

HOLD ON!

Your call to this number is unsolicited, and is being recorded. Please state your full name, with spelling, followed by:

Your company name; company phone number; phone number you are calling from, and your Social Security number.

This information will be used to pursue legal remedy via the Do Not Call law, including, but not limited to, suit in Small Claims Court.

Be advised, I am under no obligation to provide you with any information.

Do you agree to this call being recorded?

If so, you may begin speaking...

-------------

I don't think I have got through the whole thing yet before they hang up.

Sometimes I get, "If you talk like that, I won't tell you."

James Golden:
I checked my list and I have had at least 15 calls from Rachel and have put my phone on a "DO NOT CALL LIST" AND SHE STILL CALLS. I cannot put the words on here that I have used when I talked to several people at Rachesl number but it is not good. They were in Oregon for a while but now they were at last I found out in Florida. I hope the FTC or FCC put a stop to this garbage. It never fails you are eating dinner or on the way to the bathroom,, and you have to answer the phone.
I have cussed several people out when I hear that name "
"Hi, This Rachel, there is no problem with your credit card but we can lower your rates, press 1 to talk to a person or press 3 to be removed from any call. 3 does not remove you from further calls.
Thanks everyone

Generally speaking - ANY touch tone push button response informs the calling equipment that they reached a live person and the phone number is a valid one. They can then sell that number on a list as a "proven valid" phone number if they so choose. Best to not respond with any push button on your phone since the network is not set up to always tell the calling equipment that the far end has answered. That equipment usually detects voice level so as to know when to begin the recording. Looking to government agencies to do anything beside raise your taxes is an exercise in futility if you live in IL.

I use my caller ID as my personal call screener. Number I don't recognize goes straight to voice mail.

When I'm at work, it's normal for 3-4 telemarketers to call each day and I have LOTS of fun with those.

The one I enjoyed most was the Scientologist that dialed the wrong number and got our shop.

Andy Rooney once said that his response to telemarketers was to ask a question or two, then say, "This is interesting. Let me get a pencil and take some notes." Then he would lay down the phone and go back to whatever he had been doing before the call. He figured he was doing a few other people a favor by tying the guy up for a while.

Friend of mine had best response ever .
Listened to them and said heck yes he was more then interested . Then says ever since his last bankruptcy he can't get credit anywhere .
They usually hang up and are never heard from again .
I on the other hand take the time to get to a real person , ask them to hold on a minute ,put phone down and walk off . Maybe if it costs them something they'll quit ..

My machine, which answers all land line calls, says:

If you telemarketing clowns had half a brain, you'd have realized after getting this message the first forty or fifty times that I'm not going to answer. On the other hand, if you're a legitimate caller, leave your message so I can get back to you.

If I hear that it's a real person, I pick up the phone. Of course, most of the time it's an automatic machine doing the calling. But I like to think some of the calls are from live people, and I'm doing my small bit to make their miserable jobs a little worse.

Two people who are annoying to me. One is Rachel, who when I push 3 still keeps calling me. I don't need cardholder services.

The other one is someone with an accent who sounds like India or the mideast. He tells me I have won a lottery and they are going to send me a Chevy pickup by mail. The next day he calls again and says the pickup has been impounded and I need to send some money to get it out.

He has called several times. One time I told him he doesn't speak very good English. He sounds like a foreigner, please go back to your country of origin. He told me he was going to call the FBI and tell them I was harrasing him. The FBI never contacted me. He called again about a month later and also said I won the lottery. I said," I have enough money", that would just raise my taxes. I don't want it. etc. Anyway, Those are the two annoying calls.

What John Regan said above is correct. Any response at all gets your name added to a list of phone numbers guaranteed to be active and it increases the number of calls you get.

Caller ID (shows up on our TVs) and voice mail. Saves a lot of wasted effort. Two calls I get every day are "Dial America Mkt" and "Service Call". I may try the "Call blocking" option.

All of these calls originate from offshore. Threatening legal action is a waste of time and breath. Russians and Chinese (where most of these types of calls originate) have no concern whatsoever being sued or turned into authorities.

Best is to ignore and not let them know they have reached a number that elicits an answer to the call.

Best way is to let answering machine answer call, except, when you record the message record the tones that play when you contact a disconnected line first. The computer on the other end hears the tones and hangs up marking your number as disconnected.

I get the Rachel calls and mess with them a little bit. Since pushing 1 or 3 is supposed to put you in contact with them, any numbers pushed causes them to pick-up. I push random numbers until I here them pick-up and continue to push random numbers, it generally keeps them away for several weeks. I have also used the the little old man bit on them, giving my card number; oonnnnnne, aaahhhhhhh, threeeeeeeeeeee, aaaaahhhhhhh, darrrrnnnnn IIIIII droppped myyyyyy carrrrd, ooonnnnneeee, etc. Also the barking dog works fairly well, along with the dial-up internet connection recording.

I haven't gotten Rachel yet.

A couple of years ago, it was "The warranty on your new car is about to expire." I finally got tired of that one over and over, so I finally pushed whatever I had to push to get a real person. The first time, I demanded to know which vehicle they were talking about. Of course, they couldn't answer that. I told them what I thought of their sales tactics and told them to put me on their do not call list. Of course, that didn't work, so the next time I tried another tactic. I played along, telling them I was interested in buying their 'extended warranty' insurance plan. Then they wanted to know about my car. When I told them the only vehicle I owned was a '72 Pinto with 350,000 miles, they didn't want to talk anymore.

James

If these calls are annoying you, then the telemarketers have already won.

First make sure your on the national do not call list...its not perfect but eliminates most calls of this type.

Second, simply hang up as soon as you recognize that its a "rachel" type call. Gives them no satisfaction and more importantly, its easier on YOU!

good luck

My sister has a day care center. She takes care of toddlers up to about 3 years old. When a live caller is on the end of the line my sister tells them they need to talk to "Debbie", "Randy" or whichever kids want to talk on the phone. She then lets the telemarketer try to sell Deb or Randy a new car, credit card services...etc. The kids just love it when the phone rings and they get to talk.

If this is a political call press eleven. If this is for credit card services stay on the line as I need as many as you can spare. All mine are maxed out and I need new ones to pay them off.

I get the same thing over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again!

They always call from different phone numbers - and different call id's. When I ask them to remove me they hang up on me, when I ask for their information they hang up, and when I ask them for information on them so I can report them to the attorney gen. they hang up.

We are on the national no call list but this company does not care at all.

Tips found on the net-

1. If they want to loan you money, tell them you just filed for bankruptcy and you could sure use some money. Ask, "How long can I keep it? Do I have to ever pay it back, or is it like the other money I borrowed before my bankruptcy?"

2. If they start out with, "How are you today?" say, "Why do you want to know?" Or you can say, "I'm so glad you asked, because no one seems to care these days and I have all these problems, my sciatica is acting up, my hemorroids are sore, my dog just died...." When they try to get back to the sales process, just continue on with telling about your problems.

3. If the person says he's John Doe from the XYZ Company, ask him to spell his name, then ask him to spell the company name, then ask where it is located. Continue asking personal questions or questions about the company for as long as necessary.

4. This is the sexy one, it never fails : Telemarketer: "Hi, my name is Judy (or if it’s a male one, John) and I'm with Canter and Siegel services.... You: "Hang on a second." (few seconds pause) "Okay, (in a really sexy voice) what are you wearing?" Or, say in a flirtatious tone, "Would you like to come over to my house and really give me the sales pitch, baby..."

5. Crying out, in well-simulated tones of pleasure and surprise, "Judy!! Is this really you? I can't believe it! Judy, how have you BEEN?" Hopefully, this will give Judy a few brief moments of terror as she tries to figure out where the heck she could know you from.

6. Say, "No," over and over. Be sure to vary the sound of each no, (Ex. ...no...NO...NOOO!..)and keep an even tempo even as they're trying to speak. This is the most fun if you can keep going until they hang up.

7. If they clean rugs: "Can you get blood out, you can? Well, how about goat blood or HUMAN blood - chicken blood too?"

8. Let the person go through their spiel, providing minimal but necessary feedback in the form of an occasional "Uh-huh", "yeah", or, "ok", or if you really want to get in their head, say,"That's fascinating", or, "That’s so cool!!!" in the most excited tone of voice you can think of. Most of the time, they notice your sarcasm and hang up. Finally, when they ask you to buy, ask them to marry you(especially if the telemarketer is of the opposite sex). Then get all flustered, pretend to be embarrassed, but just tell them you couldn't give your credit card number to someone who's a complete stranger.

9. Tell them you work for the same company they work for. Example: Telemarketer: "This is Bill from Watertronics." You: "Watertronics!! Hey I work for them too. Where are you calling from?" Telemarketer: "Uh, Dallas, Texas." You: "Great, they have a group there too? How's business/the weather? Too bad the company has a policy against selling to employees! Oh well, see ya."

10. Tell the Telemarketer you are busy and if they will give you their phone number you will call them back. If they say they are not allowed to give out their number, then ask them for their home number and tell them you will call them at home (this is usually the most effective method of getting rid of Telemarketers). If the person says, "Well, I don't really want to get a call at home," say, "Yeah! Now you know how I feel."

G'day,
Financial cost to these people is negligable as they are mostly using VOIP, and can be calling from anywhere there is an internet connection, and by being usually overseas are not subject to local laws. Time is what they don't have to play with, start a conversation off what they are trying to sell you, or some other prolonged discussion on your terms. They soon ring off as they cannot spend too much time on you. Have fun frustrating them!!!

I am on the do not call list, when it happens which seems to be never you just tell them and if happens again they get a fine, unless the law has been changed.

Rachel has been calling us for several years. We are on both state and federal do not call lists. I usually hang up when the recording starts but one time last year I pressed 1 and ask them to take me off their call list. When that did not work, I pressed 1 about a month later and told the man who came on the line that I had ask them before not to call, that we were on the do not call list and that I was going to report him to the FTC. He cursed me and told me just for that he was going to make sure their machine called us every day. I reported this to the national do-not call center and since we have caller ID, I had his number which was a cell number. The calls stopped for about a month. That was a year ago. The calls come several times a week now from Rachel. Although she sounds really "hot" I just hang up. Since we get several long distance calls from legitimate sources, I don't always know it is Rachel calling otherwise I would never answer. They also seem to change numbers a lot. This is a real problem and I'm sorry to see so many people victimized but maybe someone will figure out how to stop the calls. If you do, please pass the word around.

I'm sorry guys. I have the utmost respect for my fellow Model T forum members, but am completely mystified by the fact that so many of you seem to be answering calls from Card Services and actually engaging those loons in conversation. We used to get calls on an almost daily basis with Card Services on the Caller ID. We never, ever answered a single one of them and haven't had any more for months now.

I once commented to an experienced T friend that my Model T was making a noise I didn't like. He said, "Dick, Model Ts are like your kids. Sometimes they make noises it's just better to ignore." As far as I can see, Card Services is in that same category.... :-)

Bill, unfortunately when the Caller ID shows a phone number it is spoofed. Try calling that number back and you will get the "this phone service is disconnected and no longer functional" message.

When roto-call gets that message, that number is inserted in the computer to display as the Caller ID until another message like that comes in, etc.

Just. Don't. Answer.

Put an answering machine on your land line and let it answer all calls. If a legitimate caller starts leaving a message on the machine, you can pick up and talk. If it's some telemarketing posterior orifice, you don't have to bother. It doesn't stop them from calling, but you don't have to waste your time on them when they do.

For me the worse thing about these calls is that I have to stop what I'm doing to see who is calling because I am concerned about my wife, daughter, and grandchildren when they are not at our house due to my daughter's former abusive spouse.
It is hard to be in continuous dread of what might be happening and these people raise the anxiety level with their useless calls.
