I bought a T last year it slips in low gear going up steep hills I adjusted the band so the pedel does not go all the way to the floor but still does it I was at a show last week and a guy that owns 4 T,s said he could tell even though mine was a 1923 it had a 1926 transmission he said he could tell by the pedels they are wide he said if it was a 1923 all three pedels would be oval like the reverse pedel I want to order new bands but want to get the right onesl
G'day John,
He could be right about the transmission being a later unit. However someone may have just changed the pedals at some time, I had one like that once. Lift the cover and have a look at the drums if all the same size it's an early type, a larger brake drum for later type. Takes a little time ,but worth the effort.

John,
It sounds like you need to reline the bands. You should probably remove the cover and take a look at the drums, If they are scored then... It may be too late for new band lining. If not I prefer Kevlar (as I duck) others will tell you wood is best, but in any case it seems like you need to reline the bands. My $.02 worth.
It's best to remove the small wedge shaped transmission cover John and look at the bands for yourself - it only takes a minute to get all of the screws out (don't loose them). Put the ignition key in yer pocket too so it doesn't jump into the transmission.
Your drums (and bands) may match this type which is pre-1926. The drums are identical in width:
Or, yours will match this 1926-1927 type which has the wider brake drum:
While you're in there, crank the engine over by hand and view every inch of drum surface that you can see to make sure there's no obvious cracks in each of the drums. If you find one then it needs to be replaced.

Garnet
I had one like that, and even after I relined the bands, it still slipped. You need to check that the brake pedal moves outward from the hogs head as you depress the pedal. If the cam is worn out, it will have a hard pedal but will not be tight enough to stop the car. The cure for that is to replace the cams.

Are there two tabs with bolt holes on the top of your hogshead?
Stephen
It would need to have a 4 dip pan also. Like Peter suggested, remove the cover and look inside to see what you have.
The brake drum is wider than the other two drums so I need bands for 26 or 27 correct?
Correct
