Can you guys tell me if there was a choke wire that came through the firewall in a 16 touring, or was it just at the radiator?
Mine has a starter, should I use a later model choke wire?
Thanks,
Michael
My Canadian 16 has one, but the parts books don't list them, only show the radiator choke rod.
Since there were no T's with starters in 16 what could one do with a choke inside? The choke has to be operated while the engine is turning over and you could only do that while standing in front of it (unless you were rolling down a hill). The 16 carb arm also had no provision for a 2nd choke rod. If you have put later stuff on it, like a newer carb and starter, you probably need to put the stuff on it to go with the newer parts, like inside choke, to make it functional.
The carburetor priming rod as ford called it (#4431) is listed for 1909-26. It's the one that sticks out through the radiator. All the variations of the inside priming rod (#4587, 4588, & 4589) begin in 1919 with the advent of the starter. Until then you were starting the car from the front and had no need for an inside choke control.
With a little engineering, the carburetor adjustment can operate the choke by pulling up on it. I have this on a 4 ball carb on my 1911. My dad set it up this way because of my mother's health condition and him not wishing to crawl over her to get out and in to start the car.
Your missing the point for the inside choke on non starter T's, you need full control of all settings behind the steering wheel when your wife is cranking!!!
Good one, Kerry!
After the T starts for goodness sake don't dive away and leave the wife standing there. She might come to really feel used
Kerry, the choke wire on my 14 comes up thru the firewall in a small hole right alongside the carb adjustment wheel, right next to the plate in the firewall....Chip
this might help. If not let ne know and I will take a better picture for you....C
Just to the left of the clock.
