Hi Guys,

I'm putting the hand brake assembly brackets back onto the frame today and don't seem to have the correct bolts for it. I'm sure they are supposed to be bolts/castle nuts with a cotter pin through them.

I don't think this is something I need to have falling off!

I have a supply of newer bolts/nuts from one of the vendors, but this is thinner than the 3/8 bolts they sell.

I think this should be like 1" 5/16-24??

Any good source?

Thanks,

Michael

Why not use standard hardware with locknuts from your hardware store or home center?

Ted,

I'm worried about them being safe enough???

I didn't remove a bolt to be sure, but 5/16-24 x 1" looks right. Any decent hardware store or farm supply should have them, though you'll probably have to drill them yourself. The original type castle nuts with rounded slots may be more of a challenge. Where are you?

Steve - I'm just east of Atlanta.

I've got standard hardware with locknuts and driven 100 miles or so. Just rechecked them today and they are just as tight, no issues. Do whatever you're comfortable with though.

I'd go with grade 5 hardware with lock washers. You can use lock nuts or blue, or even red, loctite if you want to be sure.
