Canadian frames have the same holes (starter switch, steering box etc.)on both side rails whether they are needed or not (even the muffler and battery box.)

Are the frames made on the other side of the river the same?

Gavin, your observations on the Canadian frames being drilled for left and right hand drive are correct for the later chassis. I don't know when the practise was first started. It is interesting to note that both rails are drilled for the muffler and battery holder, even though the battery and muffler are on the same side in both left and right hand drive. From this it is likely the rails were all drilled the same way before they were pressed into their U shape from the flat.

Allan from down under.

Thanks Allan, that is my take on it too.

Following a query on another thread, I am preparing some drawings of frames with the holes in their correct positions and labeled for their size and use. I have a few Canadian built frames which I have measured but now I would like to know if it was the same for the USA built vehicles. If the USA frames are different from the Canadian frames my plans will need to be labelled so.

Gavin

Gents

I think you will find that the frames rails were not drilled but punched the same, then stamped left and right in the later frames. Look at the Gas Tank mounts and you will see what i mean.

Around 1919-20, there is a very stiff plate riveted to the frame for the starter switch.

I see now what Mark was showing in his diagrams. I don't know about the USA Built Car Frames but the TT frames I have seen in the US do not have holes to make them RHD. That explains why your Diagrams Mark show so many more holes than the US ones because they are a universal Frame and the USA built are not.
