Can someone please tell me what this hole is for.
The frame is a 1923-25, probably Canadian.
The hole is on both rails (exact same position) and looks to have been punched.
Muffler bracket bolt holes ????
I don't think so David,
mufflers on the later cars only had one mounting. The other hole in the picture is in the same position as the muffler holes in 1916 and 1926 frames that I have. This hole is only 110mm from the muffler hole shown.
BTW, the mystery hole is not in the 16 or 26 frame.
could it be for the bumper bracket? ED Henline
I just checked my original 1925 frame, and it doesn't have the front hole.
Maybe a mis- punched hole? I would think in production that all frame holes were drilled or punched before complete frame assembly. Maybe the rail was positioned wrong at first and then corrected. I doubt Ford would discard it for 2 misplaced holes. But thats my opinion of course. Or maybe they were drilled for some accessory that was later installed.
May 1923 frame, one hole for the muffler bolt, on passenger side rail.
I think I have found the answer; could it be for the tail light wire securing clip?
Nope! Nice try....
The tail light grommet or spring clips are held with their wire tails by the bolts, or in place of cotter pins in existing frame bolt fasteners. Didn't have any unique holes for wiring standoffs.
Oh, thanks Dan, that is a better diagram than I have. Back to the drawing board, (literally).
