Anyone going to Iola?
I'll be there. Look for a big guy with a newspaper carrier that says Watertown Daily Times in orange letters!
Where's Iola? Kansas?
Wisconsin, near Stevens Point, I will not be there but a friend of mine is taking a lot of my T parts, look for K W Ignition, by the food tent,
Bob

I'm tossing about the idea of visiting Car Show tomorrow. My wife will be working the Rosholt Lions french fry stand anyway so......maybe.......
I'm leaving the Mile 214 rest area at the top of Iowa right now. Should be there before noon.
I'm there now. 20th consecutive year without missing. They even have free wireless this year!
Rick
For the first time in about 35 years we won't be at Iola. We're already on our way to the Rutland, VT Tour, stopping at West Point, Rhinebeck Aerodrome and other places on the way.
I really hate to miss Iola, but that's the way it is due to the way the calendar is this year.
To all of you that are going, have fun!!!
Keith
Dena and I will be going up Friday night and camping in the campground until Sunday. Look for us on Saturday walking around or stop over and see us. We will have cold water and Corona!
I talked myself out of NOT going to Car Show.
I walked MAYBE half of the swap area, everything north of the tower, and that was MORE than enough.
BUT.........I DID see a very familiar face.......
I LOOKED and LOOKED and said "STEVE?.......JELF?".......and it WAS!
So THAT was special!.......
We had a nice chat in the heat.
I didn't see Rick McKay though.......
I didn't find what I was seeking but I stopped in at Cokers' tire display.......then I stopped at the Lucas display and bought a 4.40 × 21" tire for the Tudor. I paid $99 for a Vietnam tire with no sales or shipping so that more than paid for the cost of admission.
I had a eye open for R. V. Anderson but didn't see his display.
R.V was walking the fields and trying not to pass out in the 100 degree heat. Not a lot of T parts but enough to have fun looking. The word of the day was "interesting odds and ends." That, and "shade, Shade, SHADE."
Brian, I put your cell # on my phone and tried to contact you but I have Sprint, which apparently has very little service on the swap meet grounds. I couldn't find any.
I am with RV today, and I can't say that I intend to ever go to this meet again. There just isn't much T stuff here. All I bought today is two nice original New Day Timers. I hope to find something more tomorrow. Who knows?
To be fair, what shows CAN you go to that have LOTS of T stuff unless it's billed as a show for Model T's?
There was a fair amount of T stuff there but pretty well spread out and I saw, probably, less than half of it.
I recognized some Tbay sellers there too.
I did over half the meet yesterday, and will do the rest today. I hope to find more T stuff today!
I'd show you some pictures, but on the road I'm using this d@#n Windows machine and "The parameter was incorrect", whatever the hell that means. I guess the pictures will wait until I get home and can use something I know how top operate.
I arrived yesterday and covered about two thirds of the place. I visited a little with Ron Paetz and some of the other T guys who were enjoying his shade, then went hunting. The most important thing I bagged was a new-looking exhaust manifold with excellent threads for $20. I also found the Montgomery Ward version of a Champion X plug for $3.
This morning I returned and covered the ground I missed yesterday. There were a couple of guys who didn't know what some of their stuff was, so I identified their Model T front axles and 1919-1925 block for them. I found a few other folks selling T stuff, and I wound up with a 1912-1917 #2335 wrench for $1, a few pounds of miscellaneous T nuts & bolts for $2, and a pair of Holley G's for $15. One looks rebuildable probably, and the other maybe. I finished my shopping at the Lucas trailer, where I bought some Ward's Riversides to save shipping. There were a couple of remarkable, amazing, astounding items I didn't buy, and I'll tell you about them when I'm able to post the pictures of them.
It was interesting to experience a little of being Tom Cruise or Brad Pitt, or maybe Charlie Weaver. Anyway, Craig wasn't the only one who recognized me from the forum. Apparently part of becoming famous is to cultivate a strange enough appearance that people notice you.
Steve, You should have walked around with a wood spoke stiken out of your back pocket.Don Larson told me thats how to spell stiken
Steve, if you are going to be anywhere near N.W. MO. on your way back, stop in and say hi. I have a bit of "junk" that you can look over too. Dave
not STRANGE at ALL Steve.......DISTINCTIVE is the word.......
It was the glasses and overalls that tipped me off....... well.......and the fact you were sifting through T parts....... ;)
I even recognized the famous Mr. Jelf today, and had a nice little chat. It's not everyday you get to meet such celebrities in person!
Rick
Hey Rick.......so where were YOU kicking around yesterday when I darn near dropped?
Craig,
I was crawling to find some shade...that's why you missed me.
Rick
OK, here are the pictures.
1948 Rolls Royce Silver Wraith
There were some wonderful bargains available.
And more wonderful bargains.
1931 Willys; no price or phone number listed.
1928 Dodge Brothers.
Ron Paetz (Lone Pine Enterprises) offered lots of T parts and a shady spot to relax.
In the first picture, I can see the roof air-conditioner of the motorhome we took down there! If memory serves, the Willys was priced at $6800, and the '28 Dodge was just a tad high at $12,500.
Rick
Thank you Larry Smith & R.V. Anderson for coming to my shop and going through tons of parts, hope you had a great time, Bob
Steve, wish you could have made it down to my store, only a few hours away from Iola, would have liked to met you, Bob
Bob, I've gone by way of Rockford a few times, but I didn't realize where Loves Park is. I'll have to take that route again some time. I thought I might inflict a visit on Dave Stroud on my way home, but went off and left my phone in Stevens Point (another senior moment), so I was incommunicado on the way home.
When old Mexicans forget things, are they having seņor moments?
German's too, Bob
Hate to hear that you forgot your phone Steve, I would have liked to visit with you. Dave
We did day two, and I can assure you, it is not worth the drive, unless you live near by. I bought nothing except two cans of beer!
Is that the 1915 Holley? What should one go for?
It's a Holley G (1915-1920). Before I took that picture I saw one priced at $35, which was too much for me because it had "slept with the fishes". The next day I bought two that were priced at $10 each, but I gnawed the price down and paid $15 for the pair. The $200 price is insane. Ditto the $75 rust-encrusted hogshead. I have one equally as bad in a pile of stuff I bought for $11.
