The drums on a 27/28 T are differant sizes. Should the medal band that holds the bigger brake line be bigger as well?

Andrew,

If you mean the brake band in the transmission for the 1926-27 style transmission, yes the transmission brake drum, transmission metal band, and the lining are both wider than the earlier 1909-1925 transmission brake.

If you mean the brake band in the rear axle for the 1926-27 style rear axle, yes also – it is an 11 inch drum with a larger lined emergency brake shoe/band. The earlier 1909-1925 originally did not come with a lined brake shoe but they were and are available as an accessory.

I assume you meant 1926-27, I often type a little off on the keyboard also.

Andrew,

I'm sure that Model T Haven would have that part. Mark is running a business so his parts sell for more than the swap meets as he has to pay the rent, electric bill, and food bill. If that is the only part you need -- it probably would be less expensive to purchase it and have it shipped than to drive to a swap meet etc. Mark will probably confirm that you want the wide brake band with the removable ear also. But if not be sure to say you want a good useable 1926-27 wide brake band and the matching removable ear for that band.

Remember some folks swear by Model T Haven and others swear at them. I think they run good business and provide a good service to our hobby. Don't forget that Mark is often on the road looking for parts to purchase so he may not be there on a given day (especially if there is a large sale or swap meet going on.)

I would also recommend you check the folks you purchase your Model T parts from. They may have a used one and if so they would sell it to you.

And don't forget the T folks near you. Some folks have lots of extra parts. The bands are often still good even if the engine is not salvageable. So things like that can grow in the corner of the garage.

Respectfully submitted,

If you need a band you'll probably need linings. Jim Guin (the wood band man) offers bands already lined. I don't know if there is a core requirement or not, but, it will only cost you a phone call to find out.

One thing that always bothered me about wood bands was that as frugal Mr. Ford was with his money wouldn't he have used them?

The T100 project uses Kevlar.
