I'm confused, what is the difference and how do I tell them apart at a glance? Thanks to all for any help. Wes
26-27 Ford T wheels have a smaller hub section than the later 28- 31 Ford A wheels. The 28 look fairly close to the 27 except for the larger dia. hub section than evolved in the 28 Model A wheel.
Model T 21" wire wheel, 5" bolt pattern, 'dixie cup' style taper hub.
Model A 21" early AR wheel, wider bolt pattern, different hub center shape with reinforcement ridges.
Wes, I don't have the drum dimensions handy but the mounting "drum" on the 28-29 A wheel is larger in diameter. Side by side, it is very noticeable, but the easiest difference is a raised circular ridge that is visible on the A drum, while the T is flat with no raised ridge.
Dan has faster fingers than me. He always has pictures, too. I forgot to mention the bolt pattern difference.
I understand the Model A is 5.5 inch stud spacing.
Actually, diameter of the circle the studs are on. The spacing, stud to stud, on the "A" will be 3.23" and on the T, 2.939" . Fomoco stuck with the 5.5" until the end of '48 on the passenger cars. Chrysler Imperial shared this dimension at least until 1954.
Here's a closeup of my spare. I think it's the early type '28 but not sure. Anyways, note the ridges that extend from between the boltholes into the hub - Model A.

Thanks a lot guys. My find turned out to be 28/29 wheels. Nice set, wrong year. A friend of mine happened to mention he was looking for a set of 28/29 to replace the 30/31s he had on his 29 A roadster....hmmm, let's make a deal... now I have a set of 30/31 wheels... any body interested in trading for four 26/27 wheels? PM me and lets talk. I don't have these wheels in my possession just yet, but they're coming soon.
