In building my depot hack I am bolting a wood firewall to the existing metal fire wall. (It's a 1924.) I am looking for ideas to keep the hood's rear edge from messing up the wood firewall. I saw something on this before but can't find it now.

I used a piece of masonite. Lay firewall on a half sheet and using a compass, scribe a curve about 2 inches bigger, then remove fire wall and scribe another line about 3-4 inches from that one. Paint it flat black and bolt it between the wood and steel firewall. Prevents the hood from marring up the nice wood.
Gary,
The following may work for you if you do a variation on what I did for our fordor. I made up some webbing similar to Fender Welting. I used small diameter rope for the piping and stitched it together and then soaked it in some waterproofing liquid. If you don't seal it, it will let water come through into the cab. Alternatively if you don't want to go to that trouble you could probably just use fender welting of a suitable colour and leave the roll of the welting a little proud of the steel firewall it should act as a buffer between the hood and the new wood firewall.
Here are two pictures . Not real clear . Regards, John
Gary: On my Depot Hack I went to a glass shop and purchased a scrape piece of acrlite(spelling and used it as a spacer. And Painted it black, It was made in the same shape as the metal firewall, and unless you look closely you will miss it. LIt would not be visible with the hood on. My profile show the Depot Hack
You are looking for a solution for a problem that doesn't exist. If you align wood "dashboard," steel firewall and hood properly, it will only under the most extreme circumstances even touch it. Worst case scenario: add washers between either firewall brackets and firewall or firewall and dash.
I made a spacer out of 2 X 4 and slid the body back as much. The high hood has a tendency to fold back and hit thewood dash and windshield, not a problem with eariler hoods that lift stright up. Here are some pics. of what I did. Les
How about a piece of Model a fender welt fastened around the horizontal surface of the firewall with with the upturned bead positioned between the rear of the hood and the vertical surface of the firewall. It would also provide a sound dampener against the vibration between the two hard materials (the steel hood and the wooden firewall). Jim Patrick
On my wood bodied truck (installed on a car chassis) I encountered the same problem. I installed washers between the metal and wood firewall where the two bolts pass thru to hold the switch/ammeter bracket.
