In building my depot hack I am bolting a wood firewall to the existing metal fire wall. (It's a 1924.) I am looking for ideas to keep the hood's rear edge from messing up the wood firewall. I saw something on this before but can't find it now.

Sorry about the double post. So many things to remember.

Gary, if it's not too late, space the wood fire wall back from the metal one by fitting a plywood spacer between the two. I have seen this done using the same thickness ply as the fire wall, cut in a U shape about 2.5" wide.

Hope this helps.

Allan from down under.

You could buy or make something like a hood former. The early wood dash models used this to keep the shape of the hood and protect the wood.

Make a thin separator piece 1/8 in. thick to fit between the steel firewall and the wood. Have it extend 1.5 in out from the steel firewall all around. Paint it black or the same color as your hood.
