Hi Guys,
On my 16 touring, there is metal, much like the outside of the car, this it behind the front seat. So, the rear seat passengers look directly at it.
Should this be treated and painted just like the outside of the car? Or, is it different?
Thanks,
Michael
After close examination of the black and white photos of the Model T's featured in the 1915-1916 section of Bruce McCalley's book "Model T Ford, The Car that Changed the World", and reading where they came only in black, I would say that the interior steel would have been painted black, just like the body and fenders. If you are painting your touring in anything other than black, I would say that you should paint the interior in whatever color you are painting the body. Jim Patrick
My '16 is painted shiny black throughout.
One question I have never been able to answer is if the bottom of the body was deliberately painted as part of the painting process. I personally believe it wasn't. The only thing I've ever read was how some kids had after school jobs of trimming runs off the bottom edges of the bodies with knives at the dealers before the cars were sold.
All,
my intent is to paint the car gloss black. I don't think my question was clear. I was only asking about that sheet metal part of the interior of the car that faces the rear passengers. Should that be stripped, prepped, primed, and painted just as the exterior is?
Thanks Michael
ps...more interior question to follow on a different thread
Michael: When I have opened up a T to replace wood, seats and ect. I found the paint that looks to be factory is full of runs and drips. This is due to the flow coating that was done at the factory. I would just paint it and wish it well, you will be putting more paint there then FORD ever did. Dan
Michael, Yes, It gets painted the same gloss black color as the outside of the car.
Dan...This is the part that the passengers can see. I've attached a photo a photo with arrows pointing to the area I have in question.
Thanks,
Michael
That gets painted the same as the outside on the car. Dan
Yes, paint that area as if it was a Roadster, rather than a Touring car.
