I would like to try and gather enough information to put together a register of known surviving Australian Model T closed cars. This would be the pre. 1925 Canadian Import cars and the 1925 -27 Ford Motor Company, Geelong Model T closed cars. If anyone can help with information I would be very grateful for any assistance. If you are able to help could you please send me a P. M. through this site and I will contact you or if you are comfortable posting information here that will be ok also. I have been working on this for a while and have gathered some information. I am interested in all years not just the 1920’s cars. There must be quite a few of the 1926-27 Tudor’s and Coupes that have survived. For those who have already provided information, thank you very much.
Best regards, John
John-
Your Canadian Four Door Sedan is a rare here in Australia. A quick scan through the current Victorian Club membership register reveals there are currently no complete and drivable closed cars that I can confidently confirm are original Canadian right Hand Drive. In recent years a number of imports have arrived including a few centredoors. Some have been swapped over to right hand Drive and others remain left hand drive! A 26' Tudor that I owned for awhile was an original RHD car but it was imported from New Zealand! good luck with your quest and I will be interested to see if many are found.
Warwick.
Thank you Warwick. I have sent you a PM. Regards, John
John-
A quick audit of the picture/photo books from the National rallies starting back in Parkes in '83 reveals the following number of closed cars have participated in all the National rallies since 1983.
10- 1926/27 coupes, 8- 26/27 tudor Sedans, 3-26/27 Fordor Sedans, 3-25 fordor Sedans, 3-25 Tudor Sedans, 3-24/25 Coupes, 2 Centredoors, 2-23 Fordors, 1-22 Coupe, 1-18 Coupe.
A small number of 36 Closed cars represented over many years of rallies! A fair number of these cars are imports so that does not leave many original Aussie survivors at all that we are likely to know about! Your car is indeed a rare survivor!
Warwick.
Hi All,
Colin Wade has a 26 or 7 coupe that is an original aussie survivor. It was delivered in Sydney Parramatta Road.
I hope this helps
Andrew
Hello Andrew,
Yes that 1927 Coupe of Colin's is one that I know about. Thank you for posting it here. Best regards, John
Would the Australian Model T sedans & Coupes have an Ontario assembly stamp [F]as opposed to the A stamp of the usual Australian assembled T's?
I would presume NZ Model T's [ closed types] would have the Ontario stamp, I know most Model A's do.
Some of our NSW members may remember this Coupe that was at the First Nat/ Tour in1983 at Parks. Is it still around, and was it a Geelong built car? At the time it was owned by a member of the NSW Club. There were two Coupes at that Rally this one was the light gray one. I know the history of the other green car. It was an imported US body. There were a few closed cars coming out of the woodwork at that time. Regards, John
The only 3 original closed cars in SA "as found" are John Scoorgie's 1925 Coupe, John Lasscock's 1925 Sedan & Ian Todhunter's 1927 Coupe.
All the rest here have been built up from parts or imported from the country with the steering wheel on the wrong side...
I think the other coupe may have been Ray Faiylies. A light grey 27 coupe. I was only 8 when at parkes but I do remember. This coupe was cut up by a hot rodder and broke rays heart. Ray is no longer with us
Andrew
Andrew,
Thank you for that information. I think that might be another reason why so few original Australian 1926-27 Closed Cars have survived.
Regards, John
Ray Farley's car was a LHD import converted. The chassis is alive and well and now owned by the NSW club's editor.
Thanks Peter,
Do you know if the Gray Coupe pictured above was at one time owned by Ray Faiylies. At the time of the 1983 Rally according to the Souvenir booklet it was owned by the Everrett family.
Regards, John
Here is an Aussie yellow coupe I saw at the 1972 VCCNZ Rally, Nelson NZ. I still recall it chugging up the Whangamoas & from memory it was from NSW. The brass T is off topic, but the Aussie bodywork was unusual then.
BTW, hello all. Newbie from Cant. NZ
Sorry, pics 'wrong size'. & I thought Fordbarn was tricky. Goodbye
The yellow Coupe sounds like the one belonging to Don Steer it was around a long time before the import of LHD ones which got off strongly in the 1970's.
Don has been gone for quite a few years now but I think the Coupe may still belong to one of his sons.
Wayne I hope you can sort out the resizing for us
I believe John Scoorgie still owns his 1925 Coupe, I personally haven't seen this car in over 35 years.
Somebody in the local Ford 'T' club here now owns John Lasscock's 1925 Sedan, again I haven't personally seen it for a number of years as it is in another club to me.
Greg Mahon now owns Ian Todhunter's 1927 Coupe, I was only looking at it again a couple of weeks ago. Here is Ian with it at Alice Springs when he drove it through Central Australia in 1971.
Thank you David for your updated information on the South Australian original's.
Regards, John
As this thread has probably run it's time, I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who have helped with information both here on the Forum and through email contact. As of today I can advise that we have ten definitely confirmed Original Import and Geelong Closed cars. They are from the following States. SA. NSW , Vic, & Qld. If any further information comes to light I would welcome your input. Thank you for your support.
Best regards, John
You are welcome John. Great summary.
