Every once in a while I run across a "you ain't gonna believe this" when taking apart an old engine. What I found this time has got to be the number 1 on the list of old time fixes. Added to this fix was a crankshaft with two (2) cracks across the journal throws and 2 of 4 wrist pins loose enough to knock loudly. I wonder why they quite using this engine, the copper shim looked like it had many miles remaining.
Nice one! And I thought I could be bad.
Thank you.
Drive carefully, and enjoy, W2
Would a modern copper-coated zinc penny work better, or not so good?
I pulled down an engine last year with steel shims in two rods and one with a piece of leather. Heard many stories about cutting off a piece of belt and bolting it back up but this is the first time I found one. Might post pix when I get home this weekend.
