I've had a few instances where the Private Messages facility on this forum has failed.
It seems that the originating message gets through to the recipient OK, but answers are being lost somewhere. I have now had 3 instances of this with 3 different folk. It happens both ways, with me being the original sender and another party being the original sender.
Could it have something to do with an over sensitive filtering system?
Is anybody else experiencing this? or is it just me?
Cheers
Rob
Rob, when you receive a private message from the forum, the "Reply to" address will be ChrisNoReply@MTFCA.com. If you just hit reply, then your reply will indeed go into electronic never-never-land. Once you hit "Reply," you MUST substitute the e-mail address of the person to whom you are replying, which you can find somewhere in the body of the private message. Even when you know that (as I do), it is really, really easy to forget and just hit "Reply."
Yes, I know that Dick. But as I mentioned, its happening with replies, going in both directions.
And 2 of the recipients are long time users of the forum, like me. I feel sure that even if I am at fault, they wouldn't be.
Rob, I guess I don't fully understand the problem. Once I have sent or received a private forum message one time, any further exchange takes place completely in e-mail. The forum is no longer involved.
Rob sent me an email, I replied twice using his Hotmail address both didn't get there.
I put it down to Hotmail rejecting it because Rob did not have me on his list of users as he sent the email through the forum not from his hotmail address.
I have had the same problem if I email someone with an AOL address.
Okay, Peter, now I understand. The problem is apparently not with the forum, but with the e-mail providers of the various users.
The recipient should check their 'spam' or 'junk' folder.
The host servers from our friends at StartLogic handle lots of bulk emails and many service providers automatically take anything from them as 'junk'.
If you do find them in 'junk' then your own email setup should be able to allow all future from those servers.
Rob, I just replied to your private message.
Thanks Dick, and I have just answered it. This is proving to me that there is an inconsistency in the system.
I received your answer to my message.....great. This wasn't happening before, as per Peters comments.
Thank you and Cheers,
Rob
Ain't technology grand?
My spam goes into a spam folder. Most nights I skim through it for items filtered in by error. PMs from the forum end up in there sometimes.
Drive carefully, and enjoy, W2
I have sent a number of messages through the server using the actual sender's email address in the email (not the noreply one).
I think I am running about a 50 percent success rate.
I always thought it was because receivers were just jealous of my boyish good looks and ineffable charm so they refused to respond...grin...
But in all seriousness, I always check the spam box before deleting the contents just to make sure I'm not deleting real attempts at communication.
When somebody sends me a 'PM' I always hope it has an e-mail attached to it. I'd rather not mess with the 'PM's if I can avoid it.
G'day,
I hope that my replies have gone through. If they have not it is not that I have not replied, as I always reply. To those that may not have received a reply from me all I can say is Sorry it is not my fault as I have no way of knowing that the system has failed. I guess that all is well as I have not had any dirty comments from disgruntled contacts.
Peter
Nobody in the history of the internet has ever received an email, ever. The spam filters are just too strict. At least nobody gets mine. Enjoy your spam filterspam free. Very free^_^
