Old photo, or taken earlier today... I can't remember. :-)

My boys Cale (4) and A.J. (2) sitting on the running board after a long day of looking at tractors and exhibits at the Root River Engine & Tractor Show by Spring Valley, MN. The kids love riding in the T, but as fast as they're growing, I don't think all 4 of us will fit in it by next year... time to start looking for a Touring.

Here's me in 1959. Sitting in Dad's 1925 pickup! Those boys will remember and carry on our hobby.

Yep, looks modern (small format camera), but still a neat picture. The boys look exactly right for that scene.

Nope, but the digital age has the iPhone and other smart camera phones, that allow the latest apps....the one is Hipstamatic.

http://hipstamatic.com/the_app.html

My neighbor's daughter took this photo with her smart phone using that app, and gives 'look' of vintage pictures..many different types can be made. Oh what will come next ?

In neighbor's driveway

looks like this was old Brownie camera photo....nope..last week's shot on an iPhone!

Derek,

Old photo, or taken earlier today... I can't remember either. But it seems like only yesterday….

Great job in recruiting new members to the hobby! And if you want another T and have room for it, a touring, sedan, depot hack etc. will easily allow you to haul more kids at one time. But if you want a low cost fix – adding a seat to the back of the pickup bed also works fine. Just be sure it is anchored well.

Some other options for additional seating – you could do the same thing with or without the top. Illustrations from page 37 of the Sep-Oct 1926 "Vintage Ford" used by permission to promote our club and hobby.

And Ralph had posted a photo that I currently cannot locate. It was of a high-wheel vehicle that came from the factory with removable and adjustable seats in the back of the bed. So it could be a pickup or a station wagon.

Again thanks for sharing our hobby with the next generation.

Respectfully submitted,

Hap of all the pictures ever posted on here the one of you with your family T is my favorite. I even like it more than the one of the gal in NJ with her hand on the crank. :-)

That's a great app,Dan....seems there is no limit to digital finagling. In the old days I would use an old filter with clear nail polish around the edges to create that effect or a piece of clear plastic with a hole in it to add the out of focus vignette while printing.

The first picture fooled me.
The two little guys in bib overalls would not be too likely today, but the Pure and Mobilgas pumps together tell me it is not from back-in-the days.
The non-starter pickup with the teddy bear in the fender brace has a 40's front license plate.
I would have bet the farm it was taken in the 40's (I loose more farms that way).

That might be the worst pun ever!

Herb,

Yes -- by "Hap-n-stance" I was fortunate enough to be born into family that liked Model Ts. Mom and Dad purchased Blackie before they had any kids. And it was actually Mom that is the reason Blackie was purchased. It was there first Model T (although Dad had driven his Dad's Ts as a boy when he was growing up in Arkansas). Blackie was parked on one of the downtown streets in Shreveport, Louisiana and Dad and Mom happened to drive by it. Dad commented, "I wonder if it’s for sale?" Mom replied, "Why don't you go back and ask?" And even though they did not have a garage -- they now had their first T.

Steve,

With over 15,000,000 different Ts to learn more about, I know I will never be an expert. But I do really enjoy learning and documenting what I and others rediscover about them. The internet has been a great aid to that discovery and documentation process as folks can post questions, information they have discovered, and communicate so much more easily than just 30 year ago. Bruce McCalley has laid an excellent foundation for us to continue adding the information we rediscover. And Derek and the rest of us need to keep recruiting future members and making sure that our cars and parts are passed on to the next generation. Oh -- and yes we need to have fun while we are doing that. I would recommend ice-cream after you go for a ride in the "T." It sure helped build those positive memories in my childhood.

Respectfully submitted,

Here's a few more photos from Friday... the boys had a great time. Model T's, tractors, and trains... everything my boys love to see all in one place.

I didn't get any pics of them on the trains, but they enjoyed the ride on these...

The boys did pose with the "conductor". Some of you may know him from this forum... Roger Byrne

This year's "feature" was the Massey Harris/Massey Ferguson family of tractors.

This pedal tractor was cool with a hand built cornpicker on it.

Great pics, Derek, thanks for sharing them.

Your boys are going to grow up with great memories.

Every time my granddaughter spends the night she just has to go out and fiddle with "Grandpa Dan's big, old car."

On my T, the starter button has been put on the dash. I don't have a connected choke rod, so I stand outside the car manually choking the vaporizer while reaching through the window pushing the button.

This past weekend, Angelina was thrilled to sit in the driver's seat and learn how to do the spark lever adjustment after the car would fire. SHe bragged all day long to anyone who would listen....grin...

She's a tall girl. In a few more years, I'll be able to teach her to drive the thing. What a day that will be!

THANKS from me too for posting all the great show photos!
Roger called this evening......I was pretty surprised as I figured after the preceding week from hell getting ready for the show plus the LOVELY weekend weather Roger would have been about dead.
Thankfully he survived....... :-)

A big THANK YOU to Derek for posting photos from the Threshing Show last weekend. I never seem to have time during our show to take pictures so it's always great to see the ones others have taken. I agree Derek, with the way those boys are growing, you need to find a touring pretty soon.

No problem Roger, let me know if you want high-res versions of any of them. They're about 12MB in their full version so there's a lot of detail in them that is lost in resizing and editing for web use.
