Why I'm asking is that I have a very loud rattle and I have traced it to one spot were the window pivots. My first thought is that what looks like a rod in side might be broke and it's rattling at that point. Also what are the two screws at the top of each side of the window frame do?
I think the screws a top of each corner is to take the chield apart.Unless you want to take the glass off the windshild dont remove these screws
What i can remenber was to discconect from the sides ,where it swings out and unscrew the hindge from the top with it held wide open[the hindge is spot welded to the top part of the windchield ]and screws on to the top rail .
lorenzo..
When was the change over from the piano hinge to the interlocking hinge, made? It is my understanding that the piano hinge was used first, perhaps on 26 production, and the interlocking was used later.
I have a January 26 coupe and it has the interlocking hinge. I disconnect the swing arms, remove the wiper, spray some lube of some kind ,tilt the windshield out and pull it may need someone with a rubber mallet tapping on the other end but it will slide out.
Rick
I think it was who and where the bodys were made on as which hinge was used, ive seen both in each year cars, but have never seen a spot weled one.
From your comments, it sounds 4 hands will be better than 2.
Any of you coupe experts know an easy way to replace a broken wooden door pillar in a 25? Driver's side, broken right about even with the bottom of the windshield? I thought about just scabbing a piece of flatbar to it--looks like a major operation to replace that piece of wood. Unless it's fairly easy I'm going to keep putting it off longer!
Mike,
I don't know if a '25 is close to the frame on a '22 but if it is you'll need to replace the the entire pillar from the roof to the frame if you want to keep it in one piece. The top of the pillar screws down from the roof at the lap joint that also holds the roof corner together. That means you'll need to peel back the roof on a corner. It is also screwed into the the dashboard and cross over frame that supports the windshield and finally attached to the wood sub frame that bolts the the main frame.
Thanks Dennis. You confirmed that it's going to be a bigger job than it was building my "cab" the first time. The p/u in my profile pic began with a 25 coupe pillar to firewall section. While on the trailer, I ran it into a big tree limb at the front corner breaking the pillar (among other things). I think it will remain a "someday" later project. Thanks again.
Mike
