I have been told the front spring shackles on our '13 are on backwards so I'd like to turn them around so I can install the brass grease fittings. You can see that I have put a spring spreader in place but now I have it really tight and not sure the ends of the spring will go out any further?? I have jack stands under the frame and under the axle so it won't fall when I remove the pins. Right now the pins are still very tight and don't move when I tap them. I'd sure appreciate your comments on the project.
You don't need a spring spreader at all. Take it off of there. Take the front wheels off, place jack stands under the frame. Let the axle down until the weight of the axle is being supported by the jack, and the car is being supported by the jack stands. The spring shackles can then be removed and flipped easily one at a time.
Should look like this when you get done:
Now that sure sounds to be a lot easier than what I've done so far. I'll try that tomorrow and report. Thanks Royce. Hey, are you the guy that built the engine for Constantine? Name sounds familiar. (kind of hot here in Conroe, how is it in Dallas?)
John,
Constantine had the car all apart since I worked on it last. I don't know who did what after I sold it in 2009.
Its pretty nice here compared to last summer. About 98 today, I was outside from 7 - 3.
Thanks for the help Royce. I'll report tomorrow after I mess with the springs.
