Here in South Jersey, an old Dodge has come to roost with our T's. We came across this 1921 Dodge Brothers Roadster on a T trip a few weeks ago in Maryland.
We had stopped for lunch and got talking to an old fellow who said that he would like to sell a car that he has had for the past 60 years... a '21 Dodge. My buddy decided to buy her and we spent last sunday dumping all the fluids and took it out for a spin. My wife even stopped by the shop with a freshly baked cake for us boys to devour!
I'm probably too old for her sister, how's her mother???
Why no picture of the cake?
Dave, you made no mention that Cathy was bringing a cake...... I would have stayed longer !!! With the GSP tanker accident and the sinkhole closing Rt.9 in Tuckerton, made it home thru Chatsworth & Whiting. Engine ran great after the 9 volt transistor battery experiment.
Scott has a nice ride with that '21 Dodge.
More great times ahead !
Bob Jablonski
Sweet!
Ok, I guess I could do a google on this, but when the Dodge Bros starting making their own cars, did they stop making parts for Ford?
Sweet!
Having worked for Chrysler for over 36 years, I could almost trade my T, that I have owned for 55 years, for one of those!
Yes, I am talking about the Dodge!
Roar
My wife never brings me cake to the shop !!!!!
great find.
She even brought coffee! Oh, and Bob, it was a Lemon Blueberry Crumb cake, hot out of the oven! You missed it, man. Glad to hear you had an "easy" ride home.
Looks like it's in pretty good shape.
Dave:
Any crumbs left over ???????
Dave any chance you could take some pictures of the trunk floor? My friend has a 25 and the trunk floor is rusted out he needs to make a new one and would like to see pics of what it is supposed to look like.
Thanks
Dave
This one is also rusted out pretty bad but, yes l will take some pictures of it.
Danial - No, when Dodge started making their own cars, Dodge didn't stop making parts for Ford, Ford would no longer buy parts from them. After all, why would Ford want to support a competitor Dodge)by buying parts from them and possibly being at their mercy if they (Dodge) suddenly stopped selling parts to Ford?
Of course, Henry wasn't that dumb.
Keith
I have heard a story that said that when the Dodge Brothers (John and Horace) were asked why they went into business building automobiles themselves, they replied "We figured that someday Ford owners would eventually want a REAL car."
This was most likely said after the Dodge Brothers and the other original stockholders of the Ford Motor Company sued and won a lawsuit against Henry thereby prompting Henry to refer to company stockholders as "Parasites".
Apparently, Henry had a problem with a little thing called dividends.
Keith it's not unusual in the manufacturing world for competitors to buy components from each other. The chain manufacturer I buy from builds and brands chains and chain parts for at least another 5 manufacturers, maybe more.
Our main valve manufacturer does the same thing. It's actually pretty common in the manufacturing world.
In vacuum tube RF processing, there were certain tubes that you wanted RCA because they were by far the best. There were other tubes that Sylvania made the only good one. There were other tube manufacturers that made other tubes better. The problem was, that all of the manufacturers made tubes labeled for themselves and labeled for all the others. You had to know the manufacturers code to know who made the tube. The branding on the tube and the box didn't mean anything.
I used to know some of those codes. My dad knew them all. But I don't remember any of them anymore.
I think I am showing my age?
Drive carefully, and enjoy, W2
Here are some pics of the trunk:
