Does anyone know the history of painted wheels? I know in the very early brass years the wooden spoked wheels were painted and pinstriped the same bright colors as the bodies, but then, in 1914, in the interest of saving time on the assembly line Ford made a business decision to paint the Model T's in only black which continued until 1926 when Ford began offering the new improved, all steel bodied T in a variety of colors.

Question: Was there ever a time in 1926-27, that Ford painted the wooden spoked wheels at the factory, in any color other than black? For instance would the channel green coupe or tudor have ever come with channel green spokes, or would the maroon fordor have ever come with maroon spokes as an option? Jim Patrick

Short answer: No.

Ford did offer colored wooden wheels in 1909 - 10, to match the body colors. They were:

Part # Factory # Description
2800 291 Front, red
2801 291 Front, green

2814 99 Rear, gray
