Opened the transmission door for the first time to adjust bands, and wanted to solicit your input about the door and the band material.
1) Door has an outlet for the outside oil line to the first main, as well as pretty crude filter in it. Is that or was that a stock cover or is it entirely home made?
2) The bands look like cotton, but I have zero lint in the tranny or the filter. It's as clean as it gets. What material would you say this is?
Thanks!
The cover is made per a Murray Fahnstock artiicle of the 1920's or a Tinkerin Tips article, I forget which. In any case they work pretty good, I would keep it if it were mine.
The bands look like Skandinavia old original style cotton. Apparently someone used detergent oil and changed it regularly. You should do the same.
Shure-Feed and Ford Faithful were just two accessory oilers that look similar to yours. I agree with Royce in that I would continue to use it - very functional oiler - I have one on each of our 5 Model T's.
