That bridge took away the fun of riding the ferry.

Bob was not on this tour. I had expected them to be there, but they weren't. We missed them. Those pictures were taken by Dolores. I don't even know how to use the modern camera. You can't get film for her camera! You just point and shoot, and have instant picture. Then unload it on the computer. Something Henry Ford didn't have.

Thank you for the pictures Norm. I've really been looking forward to this tour, even had my Mapquest done on how to get to the starting point in Chula Vista.
Got the car started and were halfway out of the garage when we got a call of a family problem. Had to switch cars and take care of problems. Didn't get back in time to catch you before you crossed the bridge. Maybe next year?

Thanks for the pictures Norman. Too bad I couldn't have stayed around Chula Vista long enough to be a part of this tour.

I go to Coronado often. I really like that place. An often overlooked item of interest is the Spreckles mansion across the street from the Del. It is a motel now. At one time, I understand the Spreckles family owned the entire island. Anyhow, when I go there I usually stay at the Amphibious base, at a much lower rate than anywhere else on the island. I agree with Steve. The ferry was neat, and they should have left it in for those of us that like to travel at a slower pace. They could still have the bridge too.

I was there when the bridge was built. State law forbade a ferry from competing with a bridge.

See, the govt has always been crazy.

I think it was the Spreckles mansion, or one just a block or so away from the hotel where a woman was found hanging by the neck about a year ago. It was very suspicious, but the coroner ruled it a suicide. The hands were tied up, so how could she have hanged herself? The house where she was found is now being remodeled either was sold or is to be sold soon. We passed by that house on the way. We also passed the Silver Strand State Park going about 40 mph.

Spreckle's built his home across the street from the Hotel del Coronado (he owned the del then) in 1908. It is now the Glorietta Bay Inn, an upscale hotel on the Bay. In 2008, on the 100th anniversary of both the hotel building and the Model T, several of us were invited by the hotel to bring our cars over for a picture on their driveway.
The Spreckle's Mansion where the death of a young boy and the "suicide" of his father's girlfriend recently happened is a different residence and is several blocks away. It just sold.
