After doing some maintenance and inspection on the Touring this weekend, I noticed the driver side of the engine mount is cracked. I had the exact same issue with with my Runabout. We repaired it when the engine was out getting rebuilt.

Question, Can I repair (weld) the cracked mount while on the car? I'm sure some folks here have made this repair.

Advice is appreciated.

Orlando, If you can get the nozzle into the crack, a MIG weld will do the trick. However, you may have problems with the magneto/magnet charging, and the job may need tidying up when you have the motor out next.

That is when I would bend some short lengths of 5/16" rod to lay in the underside of the ears and then weld them in as re-inforcements. They are not seen when the engine is in the car and make the ears considerably stronger.

Hope this helps.

I have some n.o.s. arms if you need them, Bob

Here's one of those aftermarket replacement ears that's been broken and brazed. Apparently this was a pretty common problem on the rough roads of the T era.

I appreciate all the comments.

Allan, I thought about the MIG weld interfering with the magnets. What are the chances?

Maybe I can find someone that can put a good torch weld on it. Looks as though Christopher Lang had success repairing his this way.

Bob, do your nos arms allow me to install with everything in place? How is it put on? I'll send you an email.

Thanks everyone,

Orlando

Haha, I was going to laboriously find that link, but Jim already did!!

The repair was a success, and welding with a torch is super-fun!

Thanks Chris. I re-read the link and viewed your photos. Good to hear that the repair worked.
