I like to find NOS wiring to copy for my Model T's, and even used too. I have several that have tin tags woven in to the looms, and most are Briggs and Stratton, but I think I have a Caskee Dupree too. I also have some with copper tags, but don't know who made them. Recently I found one I've never seen with a steel crimped U shaped tag that goes around the loom, and has the Ford logo and RW. Co. Anyone seen one of these? While I'm on the subject, is anyone aware that no one has ever made the switch loom correctly for tourings and roadsters from 19-25? The ones I've seen are made for the closed cars, which are about 6" too long, and requires you to loop the loom to connect it, and this is for show quality looms?

I think it's a way to cut production costs--Rather than make six different switch looms. It's the same with the other looms too. Unless you can pay for a custom made loom, you go with what is available. Most are content with the $18 switch loom over a $90 correct one. It's not just the looms either. The list of incorrect parts is mighty long but what's the alternative? No parts? Or perhaps a $60,000 Model T with correct parts that you can sell for $14,000.

You are right Ken. The custom looms I had made with the Ford script tags woven into them were about three times more than the quality reproductions. However, I don't see that costs would be that different to make a run of short switch looms after making the long ones. Another thing that would be really cool, is to see someone remake the terminals just like Ford did. They are almost twice as thick as the repros.

The Model A world has had the same problem, as there were about 6 different wiring harness used during production. Until recently the only ones available were the replacement style produced in '31. I THINK someone has started making the variations--but I haven't done and restoration work on As for a Looong time!

PS same problem with wire ends too-especially the unique ones for the A headlight plugs

The connectors have been an issue for a long time. It's hard to get a company to retool for what would be a one-day job producing a low volume product. And if you happen to have access to a three or four-slide press machine, it's not likely you'd be producing short-run products either. And the thickness of material is just as important as the shape when creating dies. Dang expensive dies too! Then there's patent and license issues to research too. The cost to produce what would seem to be a simple reproduction part can reach six figures in a hurry. You have to make a lot of parts just to break even. Just ask me how I know.

The company that did make the Ford harness tag got busted by Ford for manufacturing the tag without a license also the tooling was confiscated & destroyed by Ford.
These is another company that I do business with also manufactures brass and copper terminals on short run basis. They make all the old time spark plug terminals. Wire sets, Battery cables, etc.
