By the looks of the cars in the background I would say it dates in the mid 30's. I wonder why the race cars are so early, They look like 20's

Check out the wrecker. It looks newer to me, Dodge or maybe GMC. Great picture and as for the early racers, say in the early 30s who would take a new car and strip it for a race car? The fashion styles almost look late 30s early 40s and the cars behind the fence look late 30s. Some of the sedans have solid roofs so when was the first solid roof on a sedan? Jim

I think the photo could have been taken late 30s to late 40s plus or minus a few years.

Page 134-135 of Stern’s “Tin Lizzie” and page 224 and several following that in “The Legendary Model T Ford: The Ultimate History of America's First Great Automobile” By Tom Collins both mention the Model T racing. From “Tin Lizzie” page 134 – As recently as 1951, Model T Automobile races were held ever year in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

The rules permitted owners to install a water pump, undersling the springs, and use any kind of brush or roller timer. However, no changes could be made in the valve, intake manifold, or engine block. Standard equipment such as a stock carburetor, flywheel, and transmission had to be used. “ Which would make for a low cost racing team compared to Indy 500 etc. ..

If the link works this will take you to the section of Tom Collins' book and then type in 224 on the left side search box (replace what is there). see:

http://books.google.com/books?id=r61b2-M1zr4C&pg=PA222&lpg=PA222&dq=model+T+Ford +races+calgary,+alberta,+canada&source=bl&ots=RiJ0kQjBiT&sig=xhql8qL56w5zPXGQYzc xYB5fuM4&hl=en&sa=X&ei=XMYeUNr7EIee8gSSu4GwAQ&ved=0CDMQ6AEwAA#v=onepage&q=model% 20T%20Ford%20races%20calgary%2C%20alberta%2C%20canada&f=false

then type in 224 and search on the “search window” to the right of the book preview pane.

If that doesn’t work go to Google books and search on: Model T racers Calgary, Alberta, Canada it should bring up Tom Collin’s book.

Respectfully submitted,

Hap l9l5 cut off

The Wrecker appears to be a late 30,s Dodge from what I can see of the grill, but It's sure not new. There were still T buckets being used for racing in the early 50,s in Ariz.

Hey, the "Coyote" that did so well in the Mexican Road Races in the early 1950s was a T bucket.

The wrecker is a 1940 or later Dodge. The 39 had the headlights on the catwalk between the hood and fender, the 40 had them out on the fenders due to the new federal regulations regarding headlights.
