Did my first '15 hogshead off tranny look-see with band change today. Nice triples, nice drums, no broken keepers or magnets...so that's good.

Have a question for those who have done this before on the mid teens style. How in the heck do you tighten the band nut on the reverse pedal shaft thread? Nothing in my tool chest would fit, so once again I managed to miss Ford Service Manual hour standards by a long shot :-) :-)

It needed an ignition wrench style and of course they don't come that big! The boss on the low speed shaft is just too big. I even tried that knurled whirly thing that has been sitting in my tool box new for a zillion years (it can stay there from now on too as it's a bit of a joke thing :-) )

So I spent more time than I should have and made an open end ignition style wrench in that size but still would only give me maybe 1/16th turn each time and finally got the bands set...but I was shaking my head as I've never run into that in later hogsheads.

What is a better way?

One can pry the ear of the band inward with a long screwdriver then usually turn the nut in by hand.

Push the pedal down. Then turn the nut with a wrench.

Like Royce said, I hold the nut with a wrench then use the pedal like a ratchet wrench to tighten the band nut.
